|Reviews for Fall of Byzantium|
| JaveHarron chapter 1 . 10/13/2008
A well written essay, but a few interesting points: By certain criteria, Imperial Russia and Holy Roman Empire were both "Roman." Imperial Russia considered itself the Third Rome due to Orthodox religion (from Byzantium), and Ivan the Terrible took the title of Tsar, Russian for 'Caesar.' And let's not forget the name Romanov. The Holy Roman Empire (which wasn't holy, Roman, or an empire, as Voltaire said) also had some trappings of Rome, as Kaiser was the German name for Caesar. If you go by that case, though, both these Empires lasted until the end of WWI. The Turks still did last the longest out of all of them, though. Awesome historical bits, though.
