Reviews for Elysium
Le Meg chapter 19 . 3/21/2009
Oh man, the beginning was a little rough. Having already gone through Corinne's side of things, progressing through the sickness and knowing what it will ultimately amount to, made reading about his solitude and his thoughts at Argentile really sad. The first line, especially - after reflecting on that whole first part - is heartbreaking.

I like the switch of perspective, though! It's an exciting change, and I'm definitely interested to see how Raoul thinks and responds to things. Already you can see the difference between them; they are both so spontaneous but with him there is a certain aggressiveness, even a violence, that you don't really see with Corinne. I can't blame her for her secrecy, but it is frustrating to see it still, even after they are married, and to see it from his point of view, no less. I guess what's the most depressing is that I so want them to be happy but circumstances make it so difficult! Sadness.

As for writing from a man's perspective, I think you did well. I'm not a man, so I can't say with one hundred percent certainty that it was real and true, but I question that kind of narrative in the first place. I don't think that men write women any better than women write men; I do think they've had more practice, since they have had the opportunity to write and be praised for writing for so much longer than women have. Either way, though, the challenge of writing from a perspective that is not your own can always be kind of exciting. :]
Elodie Wolfe chapter 19 . 3/17/2009
I'm still reading this! Although I have one question, at the first of the chapter it seemed like Corrine had died? Or am i going crazy. Anyways, have fun reading War and Peace. I loved this chapter, very well done and very well written. I don't have enough words to praise you so we'll just stick with that. :)

Awh, that's it? For real? MAN, I loved this story! It's an absolute favorite, and I do wish you'd continue it somehow. But college is stressful. good luck. I hope you can add on in some way soon!

Thanks for the wonderful read!

Le Meg chapter 18 . 2/16/2009
It's a night for nostalgia, apparently. If a wedding is to be a fresh beginning, it's fitting, I think, for her to meet with two of the men who made up so much of her past. And it helps tie up some loose ends, as well. :]

I love their bantering, and at this point, it's kind of bittersweet to think about what the future will inevitably bring. But at any rate, I look forward to the next chapter, and Raoul's elucidations. Good luck with college! School comes first. ;]
Sophelia chapter 18 . 2/16/2009
Haha. Yes, that would have been a pretty charming way to end the story, but you already hinted in the summary that she would die in his arms. [

Loved the dialogue in this - especially the talk about sunflowers and when Corinne and Raoul are riding on Xanthée. Was also very surprised that two of Corinne's former lovers returned, declaring that they want her back. Almost as if they sniffed her new comtesse title and immediately rushed back to find her. Haha.

Well, I'll just have to wait to find out what Raoul has to say about infinity. It feels like the story's winding down. [
Sophelia chapter 17 . 1/25/2009
wow i missed this story.

i just wanted to note the part when the grand nephew of Monsieur Barjon tells Corinne that she's "bootiful." Supposedly, they're speaking in French, right? "Bootiful" threw me off a bit because if they were speaking in French, the boy would have said that Corinne is "belle".

i hope you're having a good time at university, though i'd imagine you're pretty busy. i can only guess how much work you get at one of the hyp schools. update when you can :)

Le Meg chapter 17 . 12/24/2008
This was such a pleasant surprise! I wish I had one for Diamonds and Dust, but alas. It's too funny that you have a pseudo-Raoul as constant, living reminder of your novel, though - I kind of wish a James or a Will would start wandering around under my nose, maybe it might inspire me a little more.

Anyway! I can't believe we're at the wedding! It's been quite the ride, I can tell you that. Bumpy, but ultimately enjoyable. I love that they asked Barjon and Gaultier to stand in as their family figures, since they remained the one constant and mutual thing in their lives - that was a nice touch. It makes me sad though, knowing Corinne is going to die. But at least she gets her Apollo.
Almond flower chapter 16 . 12/16/2008
What a joy to read! Love your descriptions and characterizations of people. Raoul does have a bit of a Mr. Darcy feel to him, the "I hate you, oh god I realized what I have done, let me repent"...but wonderful none the less. Well done, and I look forward to reading more from you!
springfiry chapter 16 . 10/2/2008

Can't wait for your next update ~
Meve chapter 2 . 9/24/2008
squick. MA amie? really? it's "mon" amie, regardless of gender, in this case. there's no need to use french if you don't know it... though you could also use google and see what real french people say. other than that? CHARMING story. wow. the length is a little offputting because I'm a tad dyslexic and get confused, but your writing is beautiful.
