there's something both naturalistic and materialistic, romantic and honest about this
| Yuval chapter 1 . 1/29/2008
I like this poem. It's not overly poetic in language, if that makes sense, but it's much more... well, grounded.
To me, it brings to mind a series of snapshots, just of everyday life; there's nothing that should be especially beautiful, but somehow it is, and also, there are a thousand small details that escape you at first and then re-emerge on re-reading. The little lists and compartments are charming. They make it interesting.
I especially like the grunge of it. It's almost... transcendental grunge. "i have all night, i can wait you out-/in chipping paint stairwells /i longed for sunlight but ended up under fluorescent"; those few lines especially appealed to me, because they're full of light, yet it's such artificial light.
Gah! What do you say about something like this?
It's an eerily evocative ode to urbanity?
Pretentious, but it'll do. Please keep writing, I love your work.
