Reviews for Smoking in Movies

Agree with every single point you made.

You certainly have a way with words. I really liked the way you sort of 'crafted' your sentences, it all flowed well and didn't make go like, 'huh?' after reading a certian sentence. Now, onto the actual content. XD

I actually hadn't heard about this issue until I read your paper. It's RIDICULOUS. I honestly can't believe this. Both my parents smoke, a lot of my extended family smokes, I'm surrounded by people that smoke, and yet, the thought of smoking one of those cancer sticks is enough to makle me gag. They actually think that a movie will make us smoke? I'm not saying I'm not young and impressionable, because I am. But...seriously. Next thing you know they'll be blaming Barney for child molestation.

Umm...wow. Sorry this turned into a rant. _

Interesting point: I actually didn't notice any smoking in P.S.I Love You or Juno, either.

Anyways, great read. [
Rodya chapter 1 . 6/18/2008
Good points and I agree that rating a film 'R' just because of a smoking scene is being over dramatic. Really shouldn't it be the parents job to educate their children on smoking? It is more likely for a child to take up smoking if their family smokes than watching a movie with smoking involved. Anyway, my criticism: the tone is rather informal for a research paper, you didn't cite your sources, and the peice itself is a bit short.

I agree with you on the someking thing. This law is so stupid, and I'm glad you exposed this issue and informed people like me. As if kids would really stop smoking just because it's limited to modern R movies. Politicans are so overly idealist at times. I like your rhetorical questions; it is clear this was probablly a Republcian induced law without regard/respect for the poor. Besides, a lot of "high society" smokes in movies as you pointed out. Just curious but what do you think about sex and violence in movies because that is a very different subject.

Logical, and put forward in a concise manner.

Well done!
