![]() ![]() ![]() I loved this story. The ending was just perfect. Great job. I can't wait to read more of your work. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Thank you. For sharing this story with me. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Oh my goodness - I absolutely love your story, it was amazing. This is something I really think you could get published if you wanted to. I'm so glad they got their happy ending although I feel sorry for Josef losing his fiance in that way and the little boy who he had grown so close to. He really showed an honourable side when he turned himself in to allow Lizzy to live her life. Spectacular :) |
![]() ![]() ![]() Thank you for writing this story! This is just wonderful. Thank you for writing more. |
![]() ![]() That was a wonderful story! So unique and charming. I do love John's character, the scene when he tells her how he feels about her was great, he's so incredibly endearing. Finally a historical fic worth reading :D Keep writing, xx |
![]() ![]() ![]() Hello! I've just finished reading your story, and this is going to sound funny, but once you get this review you'll no longer have 100 but a 101. 100 is a pretty nice number... damn. But in this case, one more is better. I would have reviewed more (probably once per chapter) and you would have gotten 146 had it not been for the fact that I was pretty absorbed in the story and wanted to just keep reading. I even had some connection problems and oddly the only thing that worked was the Fictionpress site. Anyway... Lessee, where to begin with... First of, this is my first time browsing through this section (Historical) because I'm very anal about it. If the stories are not accurate enough, I don't give them a chance. And one of the things I have to commend you for is that I didn't get annoyed at the lack of veracity. And that the names were time-names, and not some made up shmucks. I'm very interested in the WW2 times and was glad to see no side was bastardized. It was pretty factual, and it showed some of the real human qualities from both sides, thanks to Lizzie. Josef (while not being the usual traitor that abounds in the site) redeemed himself in the end; things couldn't have really gone well for him. Also, the fact that John suffered from shell-shock and was as well bodily scarred was excellent, in my opinion. Wars leave those behind, and while he was whole, he at the same time wasn't. The story was pretty moving, and I had to make a pause for a little while when Lizzie had to leave John (right after their engagement, so sad) because I was into "Oh no!" phase. Good work on that part. I am surprised you posted forty six chapters in five months, that's remarkable! Some were shorter than others, but there's a certain average throughout the entire story. I only think there was far too much description in some parts; you could have turned some paragraphs into dialogues, even if they were merely memories. It made it slightly hard to read sometimes. Have to say I loved the characters; even the "secondary" characters, Mrs. Carmichael, Brigadier Wentworth-Lillie, Corporal Sanderson and Thorne (RIP?) and even Josef (RIP too?) were given some nice shading. No unnecessary descriptions for them, only their actions and how they affected Lizzie. Loved the end, it was bittersweet knowing they lived happily together, had a family and died of age. Very romantic, passing down the story for generations. It was a very enjoyable read, and remember (for your next story), just a little bit more of dialogues. Less paragraphs (and shorter ones, too). Best Wishes from AG |
![]() ![]() ![]() I like that the ending kind of showed that they were happy for years and years after finding each other. And I'm certainly glad they found each other too! I am one hundred percent a happy endings kind of girl! Excellent work! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Goodness! Josef reappears! What will she do. Sorry for the shortness of this, but I'm reading on! |
![]() ![]() ![]() First let me say that I am terribly sorry it took me this long to get around to reading! I am so intrigued! I can't believe Lizzy and the Major have to go through yet another hoop to be together! I do hope they get to be together in the end! |
