![]() ![]() Amazing! Loved it! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Good story. I enjoyed reading it. There aren’t a lot of stories out there with characters like Essie as the main character. Usually, characters like Essie are side characters and, unfortunately, some times they’re just comic relief. It was nice to come across a story where someone like Essie was a main character. Thank you for posting this. |
![]() ![]() I absolutly love this story. You write really well and I can't wait to find some time to read your other stories. This made me laugh out loud several times and I love the characters. You write them very realistically which is hard to find. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ah. I decided to go back and read this story after a while (three years? I think that's when I read it first, I don't know). And it still makes me smile :) I just thought you should know |
![]() ![]() ![]() I feel a bit bad for not reviewing any earlier. I had so much fun reading this story and you really deserve a lot of praise, comments and cookies for this work. Your pictures on tumblr and deviantart already peeked my curiosity a long time ago and in the end it was even better than I expected. The characters that you have created are simply awesome and I especially liked that they are such a diverse bunch of people. Of course they are diverse for obvious reasons (sexuality, race, background etc.) but I feel like there is even more diversity in their minds and characters. I had al these feelings when I read the story and now that I'm finished I can't find the words to express everything I think/thought. It's a great story but you probably already know that. Dot is great as wel (someone should tell her :D ) also because she a type of person (not white, not thin, not overly social) that is heavily underrepresented in today's media. This also applies to LGBT(...) people ofcourse, but at least in internetculture, gay males have started to play a bigger role in the past few years. This is also connected to one tiny bit of critique that I have. There could have been more woman. In the story itself I never felt like woman where missing and your story would have no problems passing the Bechdel test for example. But when I look at al these other stories/movies/fanfics in which either most characters are male or al romantic relationships are 'slash' I become a bit more critical towards stories that would be completely fine in a world in which media representations of the different genders are equal. I love your story but I'm a girl that is getting slightly frustrated by the lack of non-heterosexual woman in online fiction. |
![]() ![]() I laughed-out-loud several times reading this. Dot's love of artists is shared, but they are moody, so beware, Dot! I love their friendship, truly, they seem like genuine friends. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Oh, the wonderful love-child Cher and Prince could create! I envision them naked together...and it is sexy. Uh-huh. Do you know of the Drag Queen: Detox iCunt? He is a ringer for Cher, a fact pointed out to me by my teenage brother! I love the name Chesty McGoo. That beer must be the beginning of Eddie's alcoholism. Sad. And poor Dot with no make-out partner! Okay, Dot has a little right to be mad, I would be, too, but she is taking it overboard. However, because she is SO down on herself, she thinks she's just being a bitch. So complex and human, I love the characterization. Happy Bunny: even Dot's wallet is grumpy! I love it. "Fighting drains me." Me too, Dot, me too. Dot, she is so grumps, and Eddie is exactly what she needs to both loosen her up and (I hope) help her realize that you don't have to Mother your friends just to keep them. Awesome chapter. Although, hell. Eddie needs a bit of Mothering every now and again! Perfect friendship. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Dot and Eddie's budding friendship is adorable and very realistic in how slowly it's coming along. They do not know one another but it is clear that they are both lacking in the real friend department, a void they could fill for each other. As this is only the third chapter, I am glad to have more questions than answers: such as, what was the last straw for Eddie at home and what exactly is the story behind Dot's friendship with Oliver? The ending left me feeling hopeful and curious, eager to intrude further into the lives of these characters. If anything stood out in a bad way about the dialogue, it would be Papa Bear in the beginning. I thought he would grill Eddie much longer before allowing him a place to stay, but the way they spoke to one another felt right. What I did love about the dialogue was Oliver's response to leaving drugs in Dot's room, because, really, people exist like this and they think it's totally fine to leave their marijuana in your home! After all, people only get locked up for possessing it sometimes. :D Messy, those people. Dot, Eddie, Oliver (maybe Griffin, I don't know yet) and even Papa Bear are all flawed in their own ways. I enjoy that. Dot is not self-deprecating, Eddie is ashamed of his feelings for men; a match made in fag-hag heaven, these two! Love it. Oliver is an jerk with no roots, I wonder if there is a connection there. After the loss of his wife, Papa Bear prefers his solitude, all of these flaws speak to very real people problems. I am enjoying myself in your world. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Eddie's story, homeless and hungry, it makes me feel bad but I am enjoying where you're taking him. Also, the setup of him trying to sleep outside of The Smoke, where Dot and her heart-of-gold Pops are. I hope the connections I've made play out the way I'm wishing. Dot with Oliver and Griffin, those boys are so annoying, I do not know how she puts up with them. I could not do it but, uh, good for her! |
![]() ![]() I adore your characters, they're so *real* it's rediculous. You're such an excellent writer that I can go on reading about your characters even when there isn't anything really happening, which is something, coming from an impatient reader like me. Going to read the next parts. Thank you very much for sharing this :) *huuuugs* |
![]() ![]() ![]() I absolutely loved this story. It was emotional, well written, human and relatable. Like real people I didn't always like or agree with the characters, but it was hard not to love them all anyway. I think I've also figured out why I dislike straight stories. It's the women. Really. Usually they're so badly written that it becomes unbearable to read. It wasn't the case here and I found myself enjoying Dot and Miguel a lot. Dot's like a feminine and embarrassed me, actually, Now to part 2. |
![]() ![]() ![]() This story is really, really bad... for my sleeping schedule. Can't put it down, heeelp. ; ; (better review ehn I'm through, honest.) |
![]() ![]() ![]() LOOOOOOOVE IT Made me laugh so hard, and cry. |
![]() ![]() :-) This story is incredible. Well-written. Moving. The characters are lovely. So yeay! I loved all of it |
![]() ![]() ![]() Wait, wait, wait. I'm loving the rewrite so far Wanda, but I have one issue with the chapter. Wasn't Oliver supposed to kiss Dot before Miguel? Please don't tell me deleted that scene, because that was class and I loved it. |
