As always your charecters are absolutely lovable, the story is beautifully written, and well balanced between "I want to know more, whats happening next?" and "This was a perfect ending to a perfect little story."

It's late and I am inarticulate, but I am so happy to read something new from you, but particularly this, because it was short and perfect. You have a gift for creating characters that one becomes very attached to very quickly, and worlds just hinted at so that they seem to exist out there, somewhere. Thanks for the strange and beautiful dreams I'll have for Hallowe'en.

FUN! I love the world you've built here. The bits of legal and illegal magic and the wet-dreary feel of the canal. I've never read such a TACTILE ghost story. :D

Have I told you how much I am in love with your writing? Because I am. You are a genius in possession of this ridiculous talent for worldbuilding that makes me green with envy: all your landscapes seem simultaneously surreal and totally plausible. It's very impressive.

The plot of this story made me think of this movie with Reese Witherspoon. I can't remember what it was called. I liked the movie, but your story was way better.

Also, my favorite image was the teacup roof tiles. I thought that was a great description.
