This story is... Compelling, sure, but it goes beyond that. Touching; painful; stabbingly true in a way that resounds with not only those who have seen those same things as the main character, but anyone who has ever had a secret that needed telling when that would be the most painful thing possible. It's quietly eloquent, a crisp slice of the life of someone to whom life has happened in the most literal way possible.

The guild members' dialogue acts as a sort of radar, fleshing out the area around the main story, providing both substance and structure in the places where the main character's point of view does not intersect with his world.
