This is a novel view of the marriage obligation-as a noose. I've thought of it as a yoke, with both partners required to pull their share of the load. And of course, one sometimes falters and the other must take up the slack.
Your choice of words is both enlighening and unsettling, ending on the reasuring note that marriage has the power of "cooling nights to unite and reveal us two as constant lovers chasing down the stars."
