Reviews for Farro
I-am-happy chapter 1 . 3/16/2011
Not to bad. I actually find it to be vary.. awe inspiring...? If those are the right words to use. Anyway, all in all, I really liked it. The way you bring in people and the way she acts brings so much depth into the story. I can't fully judge if I REALLY like it (although I do some...so far), but I shall have to read on to see if I a am fully grabbed by it.

I am going to have to read more in the morning. I'm beat. Good job!

Happy.

PS. I found only one or two things in need of fixing and when I go back I can't find anything. Ugh.

I just wanted to say that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this story! It is by far my favorite story on fictionpress, and I'm waiting with bated breath for Sulfur to come out. I literally check every day. I'm so obsessed with this story, in fact, that I went to your Farro/Sulfur blog, and I found out an interesting piece of information: You live in Snohomish! You're a Washingtonian! I am too, I live in Federal Way. I'm so proud!

Anyway, I can't wait for Sulfur to come out, Bomani and Khensa are simply fantastic. They are by no means shallow characters. I've been a Bomani fan from the start (yes, even when he hated her!), and I was horrified for a few chapters there that you might pair Khensa with Bata. I'm so glad you didn't!

I do, however, think that in the next book there should be some sort of rival for Khensa's affections... I know you've already got it outlined, but if it's not already there, maybe you could slip it in...? But nonetheless, battle for Khensa's affections or no, I'm sure I will love Sulfur to death just as much as I love Farro. It is by far the best story I have come across, and if I were you, I would think about perhaps sending it into a publisher (or perhaps combining the books and then sending it in [I'm not quite sure how many pages it is]). Honestly, I think you should. It is an amazing story, and I would buy it if I could! As it is, I'm very glad that I'm so lucky that I get to read it for free! It's like a dream come true.

Your writing is simply wonderful to read. There were hardly any mistakes (I don't know whether that was the work of a beta or not), if none, and there was the perfect amount of detail. Not so much that the story is completely boring to read, but enough so we can form the picture in our heads. You don't waste time with a lot of idle, pointless conversations, and I swear I can hear the character's voices in my head when I'm reading.

Your story is purely amazing, and I can't wait for Sulfur!

I really did eat this story up! Loved it from the beginning and couldn't get enough of it, I will miss getting update notifications almost everyday. Glad that you are going to post some bonus chapters before you post Sulfur. Loved the ending and thought this chapter was a good way to end this book. If you need a beta I can always help, but I'm not the best editor in the world. Btw when will you be starting on Sulfur?
Hana Himura chapter 36 . 3/16/2011
I'll be looking forward for the sequence. I really loved the world you created here. It's just the sort of story that I like to read (and write, though I'm not as good as you).

My friend says that the best compliment an author can get is when someone says that the story meant something for him/her. It meant something to me. Thank you very much for posting this for us to read. x

Love love love how Bomani adds his own two cents about Sadiki. :)

I can't say I expected to put a price on his son's head.

I really hope that in the next book Khensa and Bomani kick the king's butt because he really deserves it.

How interesting... this Sadiki character is still a mystery and what the heck does he have to do with Mbiki?

Well Lateef wasn't lying ... and I had always assumed he was, just like Khensa.

How very interesting a conspiracy. Very interesting indeed.

"The moods changing, he's relenting to our demands." - 'mood's changing'

I'm glad Shana's coming but I had hoped it'd be a Bomani and Khensa trip only. And I guess it'll be nice to see Jarai too, he is so very cute.

Well I hadn't expected Ghari to volunteer his services. Maybe this means we'll learn about him.

"You have taken done more for me than all my other master combined." - 'have done' and 'my other masters'

"He knows he losing him, as his steward and as his friend, as he shakes his head in assent." - 'he's losing'

"It' tranquil, almost serene." - 'It's tranquil'

"The Junker part of me wants to here to see it." - 'wants to be here'

See, that's the cute Bomani that's hiding under the surface of the tough exterior. I love that he turns red all the time, super cute. :) And I sure hope we get to see more of him in the future.

Great story, great ending, and great lead in for the next adventure. I really can't wait to see more of their adventure and hopefully development of their relationship. :) Keep up the great work, and I can't wait for Sulfur!

I thought this story was amazing and very original :) I can't wait for the second book!

I feel bad I'm just now reviewing, but when it came down to choosing the review button or the next chapter button, I had to click the next chapter. It's like a compulsive need. XD

And about your "errors"? Yeah. I was too busy reading to even care. I don't even think I saw many and the ones I did seemed to be typos. You write excellently and deserve to have more confidence in yourself!

Onto the plot: Oh. Em. Gee. It's simply amazing. It's very well though-out, has a bit of a mystery (foreigners made me very curious), and Khensa is my dream character. She experiences so much pain, yet still pulls through. And this may sound somewhat cruel, but I love how much her guilt was eating her up. I feel like she should still confront Bomani about his mother's death, because even though it's already cleared up, he didn't directly say "It's not your fault".

The tension between Bomani and Khensa is driving me crazy. My teenage angst cannot take Khensa remaining oblivious to the fact that Bomani actuallymaybesortakinda LIKES her now! Not just like-LIKE like. We all know the difference. Mixing up the two can be fatal. But I suppose I can take the whole awkward-not-really-courtship-courtship for now. After all, Bomani's squirmy discomfort around Khensa is kind-of seriously adorable. :D (The line that killed me was in Chapter 31, when she touched him and he was all "GRR, YOUR GLAMOR MAKES ME CONFUSED! GRR. I'M BOMANI. GRR." And it wasn't her glamor. *Girly swoon*)

Ohh, Arreana... I FREAKING LOVE FARRO. DO NOT EVER SCRAP IT. I MIGHT KILL YOU.

Any chance we can get a date on when Sulfer will be posted? I promise to review every chapter! XD

Good luck for publishing this; you can garuntee at least one copy will be sold.

MY COPY. ;D

THE BNZ chapter 36 . 3/15/2011
Hi, I've been lurking around this story since it was on... well, probably only its tenth chapter or so, and I have never actually reviewed it, even though I've been hanging on your every last word about updates. So now you've finished, and I think it's time I give you a decent review.

The only thing I can think to say is that this story is fabulous! The characters are pretty damn well-developed, the plot is awesome, the world you've created is... oh my god, it's awesome, and so much unlike the fantasy worlds that everyone else makes; it's so original and fascinating and the more I hear about it the more I want to know. And despite all the typos, you are a fantastic writer and I hope you keep writing forever.

I can go on and on, but I'd rather not fill up an entire page with this review, so I'll finish up quick: I wish you the best of luck on writing Sulfur... again, I'll be hanging on your every last word about updates, because this story was so addictive! :D

Oh, um, and my favorite character was Bomani because he's so awkward and that makes me want to give him a stupid nickname for some reason.

/*What areyou doing here?"*/ are you

I'm quite interested in that book... Have Bomani and Khensa shook before? Surprised that he knew the junktown shake.

And I hope you've had a lovely Pi Day!

I'm curious! Please update soon!
XxSiennaxX chapter 35 . 3/14/2011
Now I really want the king to be overthrown, whether by Khensa, Bomani, Umayama, the foreigners or their guns. I hope Bomani and Khensa succeed.

Please update again soon :)
Mak Hertz chapter 35 . 3/13/2011
Jarai is so cute. :)

"Please let him be wearing pants." LOL. Love it! hahahaha.

I'm curious to know more about these drawings, too bad Jarai's distracted her.

It would be quite interesting if Bomani is the artist and when he gets all flustered, it's quite cute. :)

"He rummages through the draw, digging through its contents for something he's hidden within." - 'drawer'

I like that Bomani cares about his people/country even though he is exiled and may never actually take over.

"Here we're only go hungry… if we're not discovered and killed first." - 'we'll only'

Aw... friends. I can take that... though I want more. :) But I'm glad she's going to go with him because that means more time with him and more adventures.

I'm glad Bomani is keeping Umayama from Jarai. She doesn't deserve to see him, at least until she finds some way to be a less horrible person in my eyes.

A stranger who clearly knows at least some of what's going on. How interesting and I wonder what bad news he has, I hope it's not too terrible. But since I can't imagine what it could be, you'll just have to update quickly so my curiosity can be satisfied. :)
starnight3 chapter 35 . 3/13/2011
Well thisisn't good, lol! But i liked the awkward friend talk between Bomani and Khensa!
Whirlymerle chapter 7 . 3/12/2011
[countless nightmare.] Shouldn’t this be “nightmares”?

Ahh, it’s great that we finally get Khensa’s backstory. I was wondering how Chike enlisted Khensa into his service. I thought Khensa’s flashback of her mother's death was absolutely haunting, all the more because of the simplicity in the telling it.

With every chapter, I become increasingly more in awe of your superb writing and story telling. Khensa’s narration- your word choice- is almost lyrical. I especially love the way you ended this chapter. I felt the sorrow and hurt in your words, but the tragedy is also absolutely beautiful—if that makes sense.

By the way, I saw your cover for Farro. I thought it was very well done; there’s no way I would have guessed it was your first time using Gimp. I like the way Khensa’s (I’m assuming it’s Khensa) gaze follows the viewer in that Mona Lisa fashion. She reminds me a little of the Disney version of Mulan.
