That is ironic to as writer be in pretty much the same situation as the character you're writing. It is really interesting having the Virtue alongside the Sin, especially with the context that it's not easy to be Virtuous. Only right.

Stereotypical perhaps, but well presented. I'm very curious about your characters and the larger work they're excerpted from. This scene alone makes me think I'd really like Rehema. It's sweet and simple, giving selflessly to one whose need is greater-in spite of having one's own needs no less.

More of a call for temperance than the actual practice of it. "Even reading is difficult..." is a great line. I really love her voice whoever she is. Concerned but confident enough to be a little condescending.

I like that it's been a while since she's seen her own body, but supposes if she were white it'd be white like a dove, and that'd be good because of the symbolism associated with doves.
Very clever and has me very curious about your novel.
