|Reviews for On Being White|
| J112011 chapter 1 . 11/25/2011
This is very interesting. I like the "tower of babble" and then the mention of "fathers" who were remodeling. I'm not sure I understood all of it, but I like it. (sorry, I'm not really good at talking about WHAT I like about poems, other than that I like them)
| Punslinger chapter 1 . 8/21/2011
A very thought-provoking, well-phrased piece. My first reaction on race matters is to ask why anyone should feel personally responsible-or angry about-something over which we had no control? You didn't ask to be born white anymore than anyone else chose his or her color.
Having lived long enough to see great progress made in race relations, I get impatient with young people who complain about how bad things still are. When I tell them how wonderful it is that people of all kinds now mingle in total equality of opportunity, they just wonder what next will be given to them on a silver platter. Maybe dissatisfaction is programed into youth and I've just forgotten about my own passage through that phase.
