Despite my reluctance in reading still incomplete fics (I'm constantly afraid they won't be completed, lol) I decided to give this a try, and boy am I glad I did.

You have a passion for portraying out of the ordinary interactions between different cultures, and you're good at it. Even with an unusual creature like a djinn. Raj could have been ridiculous, reminiscent of the cartoon genies (Aladdin, anyone?) but he's not: he's mysterious, sexy, and sinister. You can feel there's something not so good hidden in there. It's refreshing to see a male lead that's not just a love interest, and who actually has a reason to be brooding and unpleasant.

I do wish we could see more of how Jennifer is really like. Yes, she's kind, and sweet, and level-headed, but it feels as though there's a part of her that hasn't surfaced yet. She is like an unexploited possibility next to the already well-rounded Raj - as if she still hasn't shown all she's capable of personality-wise. The tip of the iceberg feels like a good metaphor to describe her so far.

Your mothers are always strong in their absence. The affection your characters feel for them is tangible, even if they're rarely in the scene directly. What a nice change after all the cruel, evil mothers that populate fiction! I hope you won't be offended if I take a guess and say your mother must have been the center of your world. The fathers, on the other hand, feel far away, in both the physical and methaphorical sense, but you still manage not to make the two parents black and white, wholly good vs completely bad.

Your style is fluid and easy, and I like the way you don't get lost into uselessly intricate, obscure sentences. Your writing takes the reader by the hand and leads him through the story, without any fuss or self-inducement. It makes me want more, soon.

Wow! I'm really enjoying this story so far. I was really intrigued in reading a story pertaining to the Djinn mythos and I like where you are going with it. Okay so far this is awesome! You have a couple typos in some of your dialoge though if you want to go back and check them.

Oooohh...I like this! The set-up, the family, the dynamics... all of it!

Definitely looking forward to seeing more of these "Mahkals", though I DO wonder how Jennifer will talk them into giving her information without losing the necklace. Raj is definitely pitiable as a character, and I'm looking forward to finding out more about him and seeing their (presumably) budding romance. :-)
