Du chapter 28 . 3/12/2016 Woah. I loved this story! I'm not really sure how I stumbled upon it... But it is so, so good! The storyline was so well-planned, all the way through. I thoroughly enjoyed it, the characters, the plot, its twists and turns (I could never predict what was coming up next), your writing... Wonderful. At first I had a bit of an issue with Sophie, She struck me as weak. But not two chapters into the story, my opinion of her had totally changed. Robert was such a perfect lead male. I also loved how you added the kids into their thief lives, and how everyone had such a perfectly thought out background, and how all of them somehow intertwined. I think the flashbacks you added here and there really helped with the story, instead of just having your narrator tell everything in a "She learnt that" way. I am amazed at how little popularity this story has. For me, it's one of the best I've read on this site. The writing was perfect, I couldn't spot any mistakes, and the story and its progression was amazing. It deserves to be read and reread and rereread, and I'm sure I will be doing just that in the future. I can also guarantee I will read more of your works (possibly in the immediate future, seeing as I am the biggest procrastinator in the planet). The very best of wishes to you! :) |
mussed chapter 28 . 3/30/2014 I found your story and IT'S SO GOOD and so I realized that I should post a review to tell you how much I liked it but I can't think of anything so say other than 'hi. this is great.' which would be horrible. Your story was listed in the community 'For the Love of OneShots' which doesn't make sense and neither does that fact that it only has 83 reviews, 53 favorites, and 29 follows. It makes me want to take every person here on fp and shake him or her until they realize how stupid they are for freaking out over lesser stories. I haven't read a story as well written as this one here on fp for a long time and that's saying something since I've been here since 2009. The pace was good and everything was arranged in such a way that it didn't feel rushed or disconnected even for a second. Most writers get lost after 3 chapters and the characters get messed up but the amazing thing here is that everyone stayed in character. Sometimes when they story drags on, the writer has difficulty remembering that character A is supposed to act like this etc but didn't happen here which is great. I don't think I'm making sense anymore hahahaha but anyway I wanted to say congratulations and thank you for writing this because it is perfect and I wish Robert is real. ok bye :) |
triumph-disaster chapter 28 . 10/3/2013 I do not remember how I stumbled upon your stories, but I am so glad I did. I powered through this one in two days. My only regret is that I couldn't sit and read it straight through (real life sucks lol). I love this story. SO. MUCH. My heart feels so full. I fell in love with your characters. Well - maybe not Cleo or Max, but even so I understood them though I didn't want to. I hate that Cleo and Max only got 5 years. I hate that the future still isn't quite safe for Sophie and Robert, but I love that you ended the story the way you did. It was beautiful, and I really have to thank you. I haven't fell heart first into a story on fictionpress in so long. 3 I wish I can give you more constructive criticism other than the fact that there were a few typos here and there, but I can't. I just really love this story. Have I not mentioned that already? LOL. I am moving on to read A Spring Melody. I cannot wait! |
Mr. Ree chapter 1 . 5/21/2013 Hi there! Your story has been added to the "miscellaneous" category of A Drop of Romeo! Here's your review: Ali Thinks: One day in my psychology class, my teacher asked what we would categorize ourselves as: high risk/high reward, medium risk/medium reward, or low risk/low reward. Before reading The Canvas, I thought I would categorize myself as medium to high risk with the same rewards, but now I'd be generous to consider myself low risk. For a lack of a better term, Sophia Parker is one ballsy lady, what with dropping out of college to become a thief. And okay, maybe that doesn't exactly seem practical, and when I read it at first, all I could think was "What are you doing!"(and other characters seemed to agree with me) but as I read on, I understood that Sophie was one of those high risk people and by the third or fourth chapter I already began to admire her. Though she grew on me pretty fast, some people didn't quite take a liking to her as quickly (cough Robert cough). He especially thought that she was an idiot for leaving her old life behind, and he didn't bother to hide it. His honesty was blunt- and if you ask me, a bit harsh- but it set a competitive dynamic between that two that I easily fell in love with. Whenever I read a story that's worth remembering, there's always something that sticks, whether it's a scene, a character, or a setting, something sticks into the recesses of my mind. For The Canvas, it's no different. The all-around cleverness of Quix is sure to stay with me for a very, very long time. She leaves hints, right, but sometimes they're so subtle that once the full story is revealed, it brings on the whole "HOW DID I NOT SEE THAT?!" reaction. It was absolutely brilliant, honestly, and it kept me hooked on every word. If you're a fan of the show White Collar for reasons other than Matt Bomer's face, I highly recommend this story because it's another beautifully depicted story about thieves. If you're not a fan of White Collar, however, you should still definitely read because I honestly can't think of a reason for you to deprive yourself of an intricately thought out, cleverly written story such as The Canvas. |
luzanima chapter 15 . 2/8/2013 The dialogue in this chapter between Robert and Sophie was great. I find myself getting frustrated with Luke at times (and worrying he's going to have a sad ending to his storyline), but I'm loving the dynamic with the other characters! Can't wait till the little family is reunited. |
Guest chapter 18 . 7/23/2012 honestly one of the best ones ive ever read! your doing a great job(: |
alina chapter 16 . 7/23/2012 okay this this story is amazing. id dont know it hasnt got more reviews! |
Sana chapter 28 . 7/13/2012 That was a wonderful ending sniff! Such a thrilling adventure with such an innocent beginning and with the perfect end sigh just lovely. But I really think you should publish this or someone might steal it. Get it copyrighted at least. |
Guest chapter 28 . 7/9/2012 I have to say, this is one of the most emotional stories I've ever read. I'm so sad to see it end after all the heart breaking trauma, yet I know the characters are better off and happy. They're where lots of twists and turns as well as heart stopping moments of pleasure and fear. It's also something that could happen in real life. I have always appreciated that in a story. The characters are very developed and I can't help but feel a bit attached to them. Especially the fact of Rob's missing daughter. I would like to think she lived with a good family and had a decent life. I seem to be rambling, haha. My apologizes. Again, a great story and I'm so glad you wrote it. |

colbyjackchz chapter 28 . 7/5/2012 I loved this story! It was wonderfully written and had a plot that constantly had me wanting more! Thanks for this great read and I deffinatly look forward to reading more of your work! :) |
dream-beautiful chapter 28 . 7/5/2012 Wow. This story was so incredibly well written. The plot was amazing and not at all what you'd expect. I fell in love with all the characters just as Sophie did and felt all her frustration, fear, and anger just by reading about it. Robert was such an intruiging, charming character and though I'm sad for him unable to find his first daughter, he got exactly what he deserved at the end in my opinion :) The sideplots with Gwyn, Rylan and Teddy added to my interest. I love the way the story wasn't completely focused on romance (in fact I think you could've categorized it under Mystery or Adventure even) and held equal elements of humor, action, angst, and all that good stuff. So well rounded. Reading this was honestly like watching a movie. I loveloveloved this and I'm honestly surprised and a little sad it doesn't have more reviews, I think so many more people would enjoy reading this and I'll be sure to recommend it to my friends. Cheers xx Jasmin |

TMSantos chapter 28 . 7/4/2012 OMG, it is finished! I am so happy ) I really love this story, and how it didn't exactly focus on the love part of it all the time. I think I mentioned that before. Ahem, you aren't perfect but you are amazing! |
