Reviews for Religious Questionnaire
Wendy Thompson135th chapter 4 . 1/17/2015
Christian sects view Jesus' sacrifice from varying POV. Who is orthodox and who is heterodox depend on where one begins.
Wendy Thompson135th chapter 3 . 1/17/2015
It's 'If God begot(or begat) Jesus' -simple past. 'Begotten' is an adjective
The questions asked in this chapter were bloodily answered in religious wars back in pre-1000 CE as various sects were ruled unorthodox.
Miko56 chapter 9 . 6/7/2013
In your 8th question, I think that most religions condemn suicide but there are those who think of it as a ritual cleansing or something like to be together forever, in Hinduism there is a practice called Suttee/Sati wherein a widow shall jump over the funeral pyre of her husband, while in Japan we had the Hara-kiri it is a ritual suicide of a samurai or any follower of bushido who failed to do what needs to be done and one type of ritual suicide is I don't know where and what country it is but I think its in Vietnam, when there is a protest against the government, one would douse himself with gasoline and start a bonfire in front of the rioters and the police (Thic Quang Duc is an example of it)
Miko56 chapter 8 . 6/7/2013
in your 7th question (I don't believe in the Creation story so sorry) I believe that Lilith might be a feminist figure in the Torah/Bible, I mean she stood up against a patriarchal society and of course was cursed by God or by some people who believed that they are chosen by God to dictate who is good and who is bad and of course Eve is the model figure of a purely sexist society (I'm sorry if you think this is wrong but the way I look at the whole picture I think this is my insight!)
Miko56 chapter 7 . 6/7/2013
Well in your 6th question I think it should be the leaders to be questioned, I mean the leaders are the ones who brought up the doctrines and beliefs so they should be the one questioned before the followers or the religion itself

As for the Pope, in the course of history they have been the most powerful figure in European history none couldn't fight head to head with a pope unless your willing to take a risk (King Henry VIII is an example of it) but of course they are human they have certain limits, yes they can grant or lift excommunication or interdict but they can't say who goes to heaven or who goes to hell they will of course be questioned by those who believed in them (example of this is Martin Luther)
Fairyfinder chapter 4 . 4/30/2013
Hey there! I think it's cool that you are trying to figure out more about religions. I would like to point out that according to the Bible Christianity isn't a religion. It is actually a friendship with God. God loves EVERYONE on earth no matter what they do and wants to have a relationship with all of His children (everybody in the world). The thing is, God is perfect. Humans are obviously imperfect. God cannot be around imperfection, it's like when you try to push the two northern ends of a magnet together, it doesn't work. So in order to be with us He sent His only son to die the most terrible death of crucifixion. When Jesus died he was paying for everyone's sins. The people before the crucifixion, the Jews, sacraficed lambs to represent that in order for us to be with God someone had to die. So anyone before the crucifixion who believed in God, and knew Him to be the one true god got to go to heaven. The Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, Babalonians, and anyone else with idols went to Hell. Jesus died for everyone at his current time and in the future to save them from eternal seperation from God. The lambs before this were only an example. No one but Jesus can save every single person on this earth from going to Hell, but if you want to go to heaven it is not simply enough to believe in God or that Jesus died for your sins. You must ask Him to forgive you and to live in your heart. I have been very lucky to grow up in a Christian home and have had many opprotunities to ask the Lord into my heart. The Great Comission (Matthew 28:18-20) tells those of us who already know the good news that Christ died for our sins to go and tell others. I hope this has been helpful to you and if you want to ask me anything - ANYTHING- about Jesus, God, Christianity or anything else please feel free to PM me. I will set my school work aside and answer to the best of my abilities. God is the most important thing in the universe and I would love to share as much as possible with you or anyone else who wants to know about Him. I wish you good luck in your quest to find out more about different religions. If you need to know anything about Christianity I'm your girl. :)
Roninarnia chapter 8 . 3/25/2013
Lilith isn't in the Bible. She actually is a figure in Hebrew Mythology and according to legend she was turned into a blood sucking monster for refusing to submit to Adam.
shivadf125 chapter 8 . 3/25/2013
I'm not Muslim, Christian, or Jewish, but I do know a lot of mythology and religion.

There are a few conflicting details about Lilith. I'll give you three variations of her story.

1: Lilith was created before Adam, but refused to listen to God, so he sent her away. This is, as far as I know, what the Gnostics believed.

2: Lilith was created as a companion for Adam, but she refused to obey him, because she was made of the same material he was made from (earth, I guess). God then sent her away or made her a demon. I think this is both the Jewish and Christian belief.

3: Same as 2, except she also becomes a child-eating demon and/or Asmodeus's wife, and they have lots of demon children together.

I have my own views on Lilith, but these are the most common stories you'll hear about.
Tekiri chapter 1 . 1/3/2013
I saw the title of this story/essay, and was curious. I have some respect for you. Most people from religions push the other religions away. (This includes me {I'm Christian} and I don not mean to offend you in any way, if I did.) You, on the other hand, are trying to learn about the other religions across the world. I thank you for your courtesy, and for being respectfu. I'm looking forward to see what you've learned in your updates.
Lord of the Fries chapter 6 . 11/24/2012
Athiesm cannot be a religion, just a religious belief, I'd say. prefix "a" meaning "lack of", "theism" meaning belief in supernatural or holy deity (ies) of some kind. If you go on reddit and see many athiest' peoples' reactions towards athiems being called a religion, they get pretty angry haha :D

Honestly I thought this was going to be pretty boring, but this is actually really interesting to read! You have an open look on religions and I love to read your writing :D
Are you just going to be doing the major religions of the world or will you talk about the smaller ones like Shinto and Taoism too?
Guest chapter 6 . 11/21/2012
Atheism might be something like an "informal" religion. I mean, atheism concerns itself with all the things other religions concern themselves with - god, life, afterlife, and all that - it's just that they chose an entirely different standpoint. And unlike the other religions, atheism has no traditions or doctrines or anything.

Or maybe atheism is instead a philosphy, or a developing religion, or just a hunk of thought still in the making. But, I think I really need to know this, what's religion in the first place?
Guest chapter 4 . 11/19/2012
Jesus died for all sins of all mankind - sins of omission, omission, thought, spoken and done sins and original sins. Some view Jesus as an angel, which the Bible does not agree with.
The messianic Jews call themselves Jews because Jesus' disciples were Jews, they are Christians though.
Answer chapter 3 . 11/19/2012
God's reason for having a son was to wash away all the sins of mankind.
Jesus is God incarnate, he is simply God in human form.
The Holy Spirit is the part of God that forgives sins.
Kilroy chapter 5 . 11/7/2012
I do not know if there are other sacred texts besides the Torah in Judaism. The Torah has only five books, but the Bible has far more than that in the Old Testament although it's just the Torah's five books separated into multiple books. Still, the Old Testament of the Christian Bible has variations from the Torah. Also, the Christian scriptures have the New Testament detailing Jesus's first coming and the prophecy of his second coming; While, the Torah does not have a New Testament.

Hope this helps! :D
dvdfgfdgdfg chapter 4 . 11/6/2012
For what sins did Jesus die for?

He died for all sins commited in the past and future. He took the ultimate punishment so that way everybody else could just repent and be forgiven instead of facing his fate. Other denominations view Jesus a bit differently, and take things from the bible differently, but they all (as of my knowledge) believe Jesus was the Son of God, among other things.
