Considering fan fiction I like the idea it is "training wheels" for practice toward more original work. Like any genre fan fiction is not inherently bad; it only gains a poor reputation by attracting bad writers who can't or won't go beyond that stage.

Sensible and easy to follow. The most interesting part was on religion, namely the issues of in-group psychology and the adoption of "unnatural" beliefs that are disconnected from our personal experience and understanding. More examples to illustrate your points may be helpful. The true measure of power/influence is not simply to make others act, but to make them act in ways they would not have done otherwise.
