Reviews for Vertigo
Shadowswept chapter 6 . 2/4/2016
I was going to review every chapter, but I got too caught up in reading the story. I forced myself to stop here, but it's also because I'm dreading what might happen next. You're really ratcheting up the suspense, and you've made me care so much for these characters. Well, except for Gibson, but I'm still not wishing harm on her. I love Gemma's friendship with Danny, and the two of them messing with Boone about Gibson. Gemma's banter with Boone is great fun, and I like how they also get serious in small doses. Interspersing those moments gives them more weight and importance. Well done!

And I haven't mentioned that hot sexual tension between them, but I'll go back and review that chapter when I read it again.
Shadowswept chapter 4 . 2/4/2016
That was tense! I was really worried they'd get caught. I've said it before, but this story is really good. There are a few typos here and there, but the plot and characterization are excellent. I have a feeling I'm going to be skimping on sleep tonight, because this is so engrossing! I love the partners dynamic, as I have ever since I was hooked on the X-Files.
Shadowswept chapter 3 . 2/4/2016
That was a really fun conversation they had in the car. I wouldn't have thought of adding humor there while they are on this serious mission, but that's why you've got over a thousand reviews on this story. Also, I wouldn't have the first clue about writing a CIA mission in the first place, so I have to give you kudos for that.

Now the fun really begins with the sleeping arrangements! I liked all the other bits too with Boone telling Ben that Gemma talks about him all the time, and the story he told the lady on the plane. Again, I'm noticing how you're fleshing out these characters by showing us who they are rather than telling us. I'm studying your technique even as I'm enjoying your story.
Shadowswept chapter 2 . 2/4/2016
This is so fun with the secret identities. I had a feeling that Boone was going to see that video of the attack on her. I like that you made her boyfriend a nice guy so she wouldn't have the excuse of him being a jerk. It makes everything more complicated and interesting.
Shadowswept chapter 1 . 2/4/2016
Great start to the story! I started reading the sequel first probably months ago, and I got sidetracked from my intention to read this one. I'm glad I finally got back to it. Honestly, your writing is so good! There are very few stories on this site that have such a professional quality. This doesn't seem like the work of an amateur writer. The way you set up the story, the descriptions, the introduction of the characters through action rather than having the main character tell the reader about herself and the people she interacts with. I know how easy it is to tell rather than show. Also, most writers here-including myself-would have made it so obvious that Boone is the love interest by having the main character point out how handsome he is. You did it in such a subtle way that I wouldn't have picked up on it if I didn't know that it's Boone. Subtlety is a dying art, but I adore it.

This story is exciting right from the beginning, and it promises to be very suspenseful.
Guest chapter 26 . 1/1/2016
So this story effectively screwed up my sleep schedule... That's all on me though, haha. I stayed up a few late nights reading this Gem (haha get it? ... sorry, it's late). Major props to you for writing such an AMAZING story (seriously, have you considered publishing this? not exaggerating at all when I say it's better than quite a few of the published ones I've read).

I'll try to be as coherent as possible, especially since I suck at leaving reviews and it's like 4 AM here, but couldn't resist for your story. I simply loved it-the characters, the missions, the guns, the romance, even the pace was amazingly realistic. I can't imagine how much research you had to do to get that all down (people, places, guns, CIA jargon? where does one even find such detail?), but I'm super impressed and appreciative. You've probably heard many times over how great this story is and how awesome of a writer you are, but I just want to highlight how it's really obvious you've put forth a ton of time and effort in this story and it definitely doesn't go unnoticed. Even on a fundamental level, your convention was nearly perfect (the grammar nazi in me swooned), and your writing style is really sophisticated and engaging.

Best of all though, your main characters (others as well, but particularly Gem and Boone) are so well-developed; it's hard to get that perfect balance of likable but flawed, multidimensional but realistic, powerful but vulnerable-but you did it. I also appreciate the hearty dose of feminism and would like to join the ranks of Giddens-haters, because I probably dislike him more than I dislike the villains in this fic (who were also really well portrayed; kudos to you).

I'm so glad this story was completed before I found it because I don't think I could've waited patiently for updates. On my way to read Ricochet! :)
Guest chapter 20 . 12/26/2015
Why did Boone and Danny waste time waiting for Gibson instead of immediately going after Gemma when she got on the train. Gemma had the core, which was the focus of the mission, so Gibson should have been completely secondary at that point.
Strange dawn chapter 19 . 12/19/2015
So I recognize that the story is written and complaining won't do me any good now, but OMG WHEN ARE THEY GONNA DO IT lol anyways enjoying the read!
Du chapter 25 . 12/12/2015
Aaaarrgh, I could commit homicide right now! But I won't. I couldn't stop reading chapters and clicking the "Next" button, all the while I kept thinking, "as soon I finish, I'm going back to studying"... But with this ending, how HOW can I postpone reading the sequel?! Gah. I've always been good at procrastinating, buy you've definitely made me master the art!
This is the best story I've ever read on fictionpress, by far. It is my favourite, hands down. I'm a sucker for romance, but fics that go on with the angst and the catch without any substory tend to bore me. I need action! And that's what I love about this story. It has an actual plot, and a really good one! I've enjoyed every single chapter. Your writing is brilliant. Not just in the spelling-grammar fronts. You portray everything so well, it is really easy to imagine everything in my head. There is enough suspense that one can't put it down. It is bloody amazing, really. NEVER have I come across such a well elaborated story on this page. Nothing is rushed, the story progression is perfect. It makes the story even more believable the fact that, after 25 chapters, Boone is still hesitating about what he feels about his partner. And I must say, Gemma is probably my favourite character ever. You describe her so well. She is smart, she is brave, she is somewhat fearless, but she is also extremely human, and because of it, quite vulnerable. It has been really exciting to read the whole of the story from her point of view. I always love first person narrations, because they tend to make stories more real, as they convey emotions in a way the third person never could. And you did a superb job writing Gemma.
Anyway, sorry for the ramble. But seriously, I just love this so much! I will reread it a couple of times. I'm so so sure of it. But first I will get on with the sequel. And any other thing I find on your profile. You are really, really good. Thank you for this amazing read! I wish you the best!
Du chapter 16 . 12/12/2015
This chapter was amazing! You conveyed all the drama perfectly. I love reading your action scenes, they are so well written, so easy to follow! You've done a bloody amazing job with this. I should be studying for my board exam, and instead I find myself hooked to this fantastic story... Again THANK YOU for writing it!
Du chapter 2 . 12/9/2015
Wow. I just started reading this, and I'm only through te the second chapter, but I HAVE to say, this is amazing! I don't even know how I found it, but I'm really glad I did. Your style, your writing skills... It's all magnificent. I'm going back to reading now. Thanks for writing this!
