I'm kind of obsessed with murder mystery shows, and from my experience, I find that the best way to to start the show, or in this case book, is to start with a report of the murder. So you have the flashing sirens, illuminating the body, and the lead detective walking briskly towards the murder scene with someone hurrying behind him/her and giving them a brief summary if what happened. And that basically means time of death, type of murder, maybe the identity, etc. The story has merit; I don't think it'd be a bad idea to keep going.
