Reviews for A Dose of Ophelia: Teacher and Student Romances
frosted flaky chapter 1 . 12/26/2013
My parents are separated by nearly eleven years, yet they seem about the same in terms of 'maturity', though my mother seems to enjoy shopping more than my father.

I see your point, though. I stay away form these stories as well.
FloraIrmaTylee chapter 1 . 12/16/2013
Large age gaps always really freaked me out. They still do. If my sister, who is 13, gets hit on by a junior who may be 16 or 17, I have a definite problem with that. If shipping even has large age gaps- it's far too much. I don't approve of pedophilia at all, I never find it romantic. I know true love has no boundaries but- no. I can't do that.
MagicWords chapter 1 . 7/5/2013
You make a good argument and you add personality to it. I liked the part about Nicki Minaj and a demon hit single :p
ahorizonforthenewbirds chapter 1 . 5/7/2013
I would say I'm pretty open with age differences, as long as it's reasonable.
Firstly, I don't believe anyone but the people in the relationship and others close to them have the right to judge the relationship. You may see them across the hall or something and feel disgusted, but you don't know their circumstances or anything. Granted, some people enter relationships without thinking it through, but not everyone is like that, and people usually have reasons for what they do. Without understanding the reasons, your judgement is not fair or valid.
Secondly, love doesn't see age. I know teenagers who are more mature than some adults. I don't think age matters as much as your maturity. Of course the relationship has to be within reasonable limits, but if it's reasonable. If both partners want to start the relationship because they want the relationship, then it should be acceptable - as long as it is not illegal.

I would, however, be concerned about a teacher-student romance. If there's not too much of an age difference, and the teacher is single, and they don't do ANYTHING until the student is of age, then I suppose it should be fine.
Gorgeous4Eva chapter 1 . 5/6/2013
And I thought I was the only one!
I don't believe that love sees age (when you're talking ten years apart, that's okay...when one of them aren't FIFTEEN FREAKING YEARS OLD), but I must agree with you here. Those stories are stomach turning. Often there are scenes that attempt to invoke pity for the highschooler, typically beginning with the student getting pregnant, but that's even more repulsive. All I can think the entire time is: You stupid whore, you deserve what you got.
And I love Black Butler, by the way. LOVE IT.
so silver bright chapter 1 . 4/17/2013
I agree with you here, completely. You're close to my age, then. Glad you're more mature than over half the people I know your age.
Teacher/Student romances is something that just doesn't sit with me very well. I mean, it's just... bleh.

Anyways, well said, good point made.
ohimamarigold chapter 1 . 4/15/2013
Great! I feel the same way about teacher/student romances, so this essay is greatly appreciated. :)
HenryDavid chapter 1 . 4/10/2013
I agree with the general concept of your anger. This is a gross thing; to put someone under the age with an older person. I don't care if they are 17 and 21; it's still not cool.
Hermie: I'll follow you; thanks for your review and the food for thought :)
InuYashaOuranKyoFan chapter 1 . 4/7/2013
I remember the good old days watching Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide *nostalgia moment* Okay now that that's out of the way, I totally agree with you. I mean my parents are 10 years apart but they met in their thirties not at a damned highschool campus. I mean seriously? It is gross. Wonderful rant my friend and you seem really mature for someone who is my age *thumbs up*
Fat Cat Wisdom chapter 1 . 3/27/2013
I totally agree. There was a teacher-student relationship at my school and both the student and teacher got shamed for life, and the teacher's career was permanently destroyed, and his wife and kids had to bear the shame.
Real life isn't like the stories people put up here. It's not only morally skewed; everyone also gets hurt. (especially if it's high school!)
I hope no one gets inspired by these stories *shudders*
Shadowswept chapter 1 . 3/21/2013
You're thirteen? I never would have guessed, because you are very mature and rational. I'm impressed by your thinking here. I understand some kids having this fantasy. What I don't understand are the teachers who do this. They are the adults. They should know better. There are billions of people in the world. You can't find another adult?

I remember when I was in high school, and this girl had a crush on a teacher. I kept looking around for a young teacher just out of college. I never saw anyone like that. One day in the cafeteria, she said, "There he is!"
I looked where she was pointing, and it was a middle-aged man with a beer-belly. I couldn't believe it.
Not that looks are everything, because they're not. Still, I believe that youth belongs with youth.

Teachers who date students are completely unethical. It's a school, not a bar.

P.S. My son used to watch Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, and I loved that show.

I don't know if you've ever seen My So Called Life, but you remind me of the main character, Angela, with how intelligent you are at such a young age. The show was only on for one season unfortunately.
BlankpageEagerpen chapter 1 . 3/7/2013
XD This was a very justified rant. I think a lot of people don't see the main issue in teacher crushes. Especially if it's in real life, especially if that teacher is male, and even he never does anything. It can get him fired faster than you wouldn't believe. They can also got to jail. It ruins people's lives. I know this because I've had to patiently explain this to my friend at least a thousand times. I went and pulled up some news articles about it to show her. My friend is very smart and very rational, and she's not stupid. She just doesn't really like guys her age. It's exhausting. Despite the fact that she is more physically capable and intelligent that me, I'm convinced she's going to get roofied.

I agree that love doesn't see gender. I think at a certain point love doesn't see age either. Yeah I know. Once everyone's in their twenties sure I don't care about your age difference. No matter how much it may creep me out...once you have two decades under belt I guess you can probably decide ages for yourself. But yes teenagers everywhere heed the wide words of Ophelia and just forget about for awhile, it's better for everyone. Once your...eighteen then yeah sure, at least it's legal. But not with your teacher!
Watercatcher7984 chapter 1 . 3/7/2013
I take it you don't like Aria and Ezra's relationship on Pretty Little Liars then.
Moonlightpheonix-xX chapter 1 . 3/7/2013
Hallelujah, finally someone agrees. For a second I felt like I was the only one on this site that hates pedophilia.
...But then, it is a pretty big site. lol.
