![]() ![]() ![]() It's too bad that so many people see themselves and their lives this way. Very deep poem and a very valid subject. People are too harsh on themselves, especially about their physical appearance. The fact is, happiness isn't dependent on external things, such as looks or other people. It's dependent on your internal thoughts and feelings. You're happy if you WANT to be happy. It all lies in your mind, and therefore, much more in your control then most people realize. I love this poem, because it addresses a rising problem in today's society. We are told by the media and marketing teams that happiness is dependent on getting the new car, looking like a supermodel, becoming rich, etc. But have you ever met a supermodel? They don't often come off as very happy people. And if riches made you happy, why is it that rich people seem so miserable in the magazines? Obviously, money and looks can't bring you happiness, despite the media's message that it does. Only YOU can bring you happiness, and that happiness is completely free and easy. You just have to live it. It sounds counter-intuitive, but acting happy can actually MAKE you happy. Thinking happy thoughts despite the negative thoughts in your head MAKES you happier. Looking at yourself in the mirror and saying to yourself that you are beautiful and amazing MAKES you feel better about yourself. And the opposite is equally true. Thanks for the awesome poem and I'm sorry for the little rant. I have some friends who think like this and seeing them verge on killing themselves because of a lie infuriates me. |
![]() ![]() ![]() The pain and despondency of someone with poor body image came through clearly. It's heartbreaking how so many of us see our selves in such bad light. |
