luckywolfqueen chapter 1 . 5/26/2014 Are you going to continue this? Its pretty good... |
EleemosynarySilence chapter 3 . 6/12/2013 Hehe, sorry it took me so long... Another great two chapters! I loved the part about Aurora and her triple espresso coffee, it actually took me a second to get it. Can't wait to see how Prince Zacharius IX entertains our dear Cabbage. Write on! Elee |
snaggled chapter 1 . 6/9/2013 Oh man, I sincerely LOVE this story! I have a bit of a soft spot towards fairytale stories, particularly ones that put a spin on things, so this is right up my alley! guilty pleasures aside, your writing style is brilliant; the humor is balanced perfectly, and not once does it interrupt the flow (which is also very smooth and pleasant to follow). From the first word the narrator is extremely likeable, and you can really feel 'feel' her voice coming through word choices. In terms of content, I love the parallels to Rapunzel; the parents forcing their child on a witch, rather than being forced to give her up. The idea of it becoming a new 'trend' to name one's child after a bizarre plant. And use of the common Prince trope in fairytales was brilliantly timed and executed (I particularly like Cabbage's little nudge at running away with the first Prince they find "well-bred, well-to-do, well-off, and well over forty") Also the Rutabaga line made me giggle, although it might not be intended. There's a little line said by the Rapunzel witch in Into The Woods (a musical based on smooshing all fairytale characters into one world) which mentions the parents almost stealing the plant. I really don't know if that was written with that in mind but...If it was nice nod xD (and if it wasn't...Go watch the musical, because I think you'd enjoy it!) The only crit I can give it is that I wish the chapters were longer! And maybe you could do with fleshing small bits out? Like dwelling on her parents actions, or what Esmeralda is like as a person. But in terms of style, it fits the fairytalesque feel very well, and I really enjoyed it! |
Fortescue chapter 3 . 6/1/2013 I like this. Its narrative voice is very knowing while still quite young and in character for a girl of fifteen. I like the small, wry touches of humour - the mention of the crossbow made me laugh - and you have a refreshingly good grasp of punctuation, grammar and spelling. Interesting start, and I'd like to see where this goes. |
EleemosynarySilence chapter 1 . 5/27/2013 Oh, this reminds me of a book I read when I was younger... I think it was a spin-off of the princess and the pea... Anyhow, I love it! I just love it, all of it. I've always enjoyed spin-offs... but only so many people can get it right. What was your inspiration for this? :D Please continue. Elee |
