This story is incredible! So so so beautifully written. I'm captivated and anxiously await the next update! Wonderful work.

Hm? You know what that beautiful gift means? John's got Sloane on his mind. Sure, he's her guardian and needed to get her gift but the intricacies of carving something small enough to fit in pocket can't be easy... Then again, he could be a pro at whittling/carving and it took him a few minutes.
Also, kudos to John for not waking Sloane. Very considerate, but what'd he do what'd he do, watch her until he drifted off to sleep himself? And I will add what an adorable outfit to see a man in. The next chapter sounds intriguing. Can't wait.

Now that she is becoming "aware" of John, awkwardness is certain to follow. How does he feel about her? It is easy to assume, but since no words have been spoken...

It is an interesting situation. I'm actually surprised that the lady who wants Bizzy hasn't tried to use the idea of a young single man alone in a house with two teen girls against them. Even though he does stay out in the barn, there is still quite a bit of room for mischief if his character was less noble. That lady certainly seems like the type to use the gossip-mill and "social concern" to make another grab for the little girl.

And if John and Sloane do begin to acknowledge their attraction to each other, how long will it be until the townspeople take notice?

Good god the beginning of this chapter killed me. The whole bit with her application was just so heartfelt and I really really wanted to give Sloane a hug right then and there. Although she's been through so much already with the house, her siblings, and John the application really hit home because Sloane continually sacrifices herself for others and to see her shutdown on her own dreams was just really heartbreaking. She even goes so far to call herself selfish even though she's always put others before herself. Ugh, poor Sloane.

But then of course we get a little pick me up with that lovely John moment. I think it really shows how far they've come. Especially that little bit at the very end where he asks her if she's all right. Something tells me that Sloane is going to have some choice words for John in the morning though since I'm sure she's going to be frustrated with the lack of income now. God I hope that girl gets some kind of break soon.

Gosh this story is so unique and interesting. You definitely don't see a lot of these kinds of stories around Fiction Press which just makes it all the more entertaining.

My favorite part of this chapter would be the interaction between Sloane and Nina. I actually feel like they have a huge potential to be good friends, and I really think Sloane could use a good friend in her life besides Matty. Or at least a good *girl* friend.
I really hope Nina comes back in the story and they help each other.

Honest story..liked it without all the usual drama...
