Reviews for Death Wish
Shannon chapter 1 . 8/10/2014
This is meant to be shocking, distressing, saddening. However, we don't know enough about the narrator in this poem to be shocked. I highly suggest letting a bit of the quotidian into your poems. I too have wished for death, but I can't empathize with this poem because there's really not much to empathize with. There is nothing wrong with a short poem, but short poems especially rely on beautiful words that evoke strong emotions. The best part of this poem is the line "I am a pariah." Pariah is a word with a great deal of history, that reminds me of my own pariah-hood, as well as Hester's struggle in The Scarlet Letter, and a million other examples from all of literature.
