Reviews for Auld Lang Syne
Damnedtoheaven chapter 1 . 4/13/2014
I would have left a signed in review but my account is playing up. Just wanted to drop by and say that if the first chapter is anything to go by, this story is going to be great. So many questions waiting to be answered, can't wait for the next update.
leavemeialone chapter 1 . 4/13/2014
This story should be interesting. I love how to see how things are now . . . but it will be really fun to see how they ended up here. I can't wait to read what exactly happened. I am also curious as to why Nik is so important for them all. How did he miss all of their updates? Was he serving the country? I can't wait until I read more to figure out the pieces of what exactly happened.

These friends seem interesting! I love the way you've shown the underlying tension

You've piqued my interest. Actually, you've done beyond that. You make me wish this was a book that I could read all the way through in one sitting. This is the type of opening scene that grabs people's attention and has them impatiently waiting to find out all the plot secrets.

I hate to sound like such a girl, but so far I like all the guys in your story. Ansel seems like a great friend, Wolf is unknown enough to let him have a pass, and Nik is obviously mysterious, but nice enough that I like him. I also like Tamy. She seems very multi-layered already, which is a great thing to be able to see just within the first chapter. Nadine and Lux, however, displease me if only because they're coming off as seemingly nice people in general, but their attitude towards Ansel and Tamy is a bit annoying and makes them appear two-faced.

But I like the dynamics of the group so much! I can see how great of a group they used to be. I also like that the dialogue wasn't stuffed with fillers and instead displayed a good depth in order to get us to understand how everyone's feelings range.

I also really appreciate that you've given us a bit of the big secret - ex and best friend shacking up - instead of dragging it all out. This way it makes the reader more curious to learn about the ex history, of what happened to make Nik leave - since it wasn't apparent that he wanted to do that - what happened between Ansel and Tamy, what the big argument was like, and how Nadine and Lux managed to avoid telling Nik that the group had a falling out years before especially since they've been communicating the entire time.

You've written such a good opening chapter that I really hope you update this as soon as you can, because I'm already incredibly invested in the characters' history and what their future is going to look like. However, I noticed that you've only written one-shots for the most part, which, I'm sorry to say, makes me question your capability of finishing a multi-chaptered story, which I'm assuming this is. I'm not saying that I automatically doubt that you can, but it's one of the fears of reading such a promising story like this one. I'd like the reassurance that you will follow through with this story all the way to the end, but that's something we'll see with time. I really look forward to the rest of this story :)

sami1995 chapter 1 . 4/11/2014
What captured my attention, first and foremost, was the way you described the first scene. The weather, most importantly. The fact that it was chilly and cold worked along great. It almost symbolized the depressing, coldness existing within the group. The line “the way snowflakes were their chilly little dance on their journey from the sky to the ground” effectively added this morose and foreboding tone. I really loved that.

And now let’s head onto the group! I really enjoyed and loved the way you showed us each and everyone’s movements. We could really gain some insight about the other characters through the protagonist eyes. Which reminds me and I’ve to go to say it. There’s this really subtle and cool about the way you describe a person’s movements. I saw that in ‘How to Get from Point A to Point B’ and in Fades and now here. Top of my mind, example, ‘He twisted the buttons through the hole in the shirt” (The scene where Juli sees him for the second time, I believe). I don’t know why, but it’s these simple things that makes the readers able to visualize everything well. It’s almost like a hit-on-the-face because you start to feel it.

All the characters, here (Tammy, Ansel, Wolf, Nadine, Lux and Nik) have really different, opposite personalities. You really delineated it well that from the first few paragraphs. There is a huge deal of tension and unresolved feelings between everyone. And I’ve been really wanting to read a story about a group. A broken group, actually. All the messy drama, dynamics, angst and anxieties between everyone—it’s thrilling! And drama in a group is something anybody can relate to.

The fights affect everyone in different ways and the pain of the past still progress into the future. You clearly showed us it through the protagonist’s monologues and the fiery verbal outbursts between the ex-friends. At the same time, I’m really fascinated at what made the group work together so well in the past. I’m sure we’d tread into the past, soon enough. Nik and Tammy shares quite a curious past. I’m sensing some love-triangle moments between Tammy, Nik and Ansel, but I’m not sure whether that’s right. But still I’d love to know more. Also, the fact that the group has been divided makes you want to know what really happened to change everything. They didn’t just drift apart. It’s quite the mystery, especially since Ansel, the best friend, chose Tammy. Wow.

As the guy who’d been living on the sidelines for so long, I think Nik will bring quite a refreshing change to the group’s scenario. I don’t know how long it’d take for him to realize that the group has shambled, but it’d be really interesting to read about it. Is he the glue of the group, I can’t help wonder. What do I think about Nik? I think he feels a bit uncomfortable in the group’s presence, as in he can perhaps sense that something’s wrong. He definitely has been keeping contact with Lux and Nadine, that’s some. He does seem to have some softening effect when it comes to Tammy from the way he talks to her. But quite a challenging one when it comes to Ansel. His character’s definitely making me curious. I really love the fact that there are now two sides of the group and so basically two sides of the story.

Okay, I think I probably rambled on enough with repetition, but I still have to go on. I really liked the way you describe the scenery when they’d all begun walking to Ansel’s apartment. Especially the way Nik was looking around everything after coming back after such a long time.
“Everything looks just like I remember…and yet so different”—I don’t know why, but this quote has this immense ring of nostalgia on it. I get so nostalgic when I go past old neighborhoods. It's such a heaving feeling, wrapping itself around you.

Nadine’s constant attempts to cover up what happened makes me wonder too why is desperate for Nik not to know. At the same time, I can connect with Tammy too. I like the way the protagonist mentioned that she’s the one to create the drama. I think she’ll be quite a multi-faceted character. There’s so much strain and antagonism between Nadine and Tammy. Now also Ansel. I like the friendship between him and Tammy but I wonder about his relationship with Nik too. Oh man, even the anger between him and Nik! There’s so much going on. I’m seriously, seriously intrigued. Everything’s really mysterious. I loved the first chapter has this quite sinister mood, I don’t know. I just love it.

I’m seriously, honestly very much intrigued by the plot. I’ve been dying to read a good Young Adult Book. Not just romance, but you know, something that deals with friendships, drama, angst. A complete embracement of everything. I hope you pull it off. I’m greatly anticipated. didn’t write this for the sake of writing a long review. It came straight on and I’ve a feeling my reviews about this story are going to pretty long. XD

Do update soon.
