A very complete image, given the many details. It sounds like the unlocking of a chamber that no one really wants to visit. Particularly visual are: "the carpet curled like a cocoon
Wallpaper peeled like sunburned skin" The poem has a unity all its own. That of the door, what it stands for, and what lies beyond. Good writing again as always!
