|Reviews for Solitude: A Loneliness Like No Other|
| lirianstar chapter 12 . 10/24/2018
Cheers to Hamasaki Ryou!
This was such a bittersweet, yet still so happy end!
For a short series, I really enjoyed it. I guess the no. of things you managed to get across [and adress sucessfully] made it super enjoyable for me, personally.
Depression, anxiety, illness, death...and the cure was one boy who actually had the right to just give up - but didn't. He saved them all.
Things you can retouch: A bit more on Kazu. She makes a huge change to the MC, yet disappears very fast. May add a chapter on her?
Their father: this def surprised me. So, do add something more, maybe from their mom's side which leads to the clues about him being such a horrible person and the aftermath on Hana. [the guns part I got, but something more too]
Overall, I really liked this! I'd like to know Ryou and Kazu met up in heaven and are watching over their loved ones :)

Ryou no no nonnonono!
Of course I knew this was coming - but so soon? I so did not expect this...
So much happened, and so many people were changed.
Hana, their mother, Mori sensei...and Ryou was the strongest of them all. The flashbacks made it even more intense for me[personally] as you see exactly how much everyone change due to one boy.
The part about their father was surprising; I didn't expect that tbh [given no one ever discussed him] you can add a little about him in the earlier if you decide to retouch, perhaps?

Awww this chapter was absolutely amazing! The emotional twists were something else...and you really brought out the reasons for Nakamura's depression, and even her suicidal thoughts were all so understandable.
That sort of bullying is absolutely horrific - not 'typical' adult described teenage angst which can be 'dealt' with. Kids in pain can lose themselves to it...so much so that when no one is around for them they just want to end it all. It's the same for adults, but worse for kids as they are supposed to be cared about and understood. So we can never judge someone in mental pain - as we can never truly put themselves in their shoes. At best, we can try to help them with everything in us.
I really love Ryou. As a protagonist, he's incredible and so, so amazing.

OMG Nakamura is being bullied? And that badly :X That's horrifying...
I so do wonder how she will interact with Ryou, who treasures life so much.
LOL Mori sensei XD

The feels* in this chapter...
I have to say, the emotional angle, the tragic undertone really come alive in this chapter. The mix of despair, depression, frustration and anger...
I feel so bad for their mother. I didn't have much of an opinion of her [she was always absent] but her side of the story is revealed too.
| lirianstar chapter 7 . 5/22/2018
Another cliffhanger ending!
I have to say, I did not get why Hana had acted distant to Ryou. So, her childhood may hold more clues. Was their mother always away on purpose? Maybe her daughter reminded her of Ryou too much. Well, as she begins to get closer to her only brother, it so sweet. But, the tragic situation is still there...
| lirianstar chapter 6 . 4/19/2018
This is killing me.
This is just too, too sad. This cannot happen!
I feel for Kazu...
I feel for Ryou...
| lirianstar chapter 5 . 4/19/2018
Why?! Just whyyyy?!
| lirianstar chapter 4 . 4/3/2018
Oh no! I hope Ryou is OK!
So his illness is unidentified?!
Idk why but this gives me hope despite the diagnosis. He needs to live, dammit!
| lirianstar chapter 3 . 4/1/2018
I really like Kazu. She seems like that one sunny friend who lights you up!
I sense that something is about to start between Ryou and Nakamura san?
| lirianstar chapter 2 . 3/31/2018
This chapter was heartwarming. A snowball fight...
And introduction to anime.
I wish the doctor made a misdiagnoses! he needs more time. A lifetime...
| lirianstar chapter 1 . 3/30/2018
He is so kind and accepting of this situation - even though life has SO not been fair :(
I already like his maturity, and his desire to experience something that everyone usually takes for granted. To him, it's so very precious...
I wonder why his sister never came to see him though. Will be reading on!

Okay, so this review is a bit overdue and might seem a bit harsh, but keep in mind it's completely constructive with no bashing intended.
I felt like the story was a bit rushed to our protagonist kicking the bucket in chapter 11. I couldn't feel enough connection with the protagonist in order to sympathize until near the end when his father's character was revealed, but even then it wasn't that much. Aside from that, Ryou's love of soup was pretty much the only thing making him memorable, and to suffer from his ailing illness at inconvenient times. I wish the story had been longer because then his character could have the opportunity to be developed more and in turn be more "human".
Another problem I felt with the story would be Kazu, since she had the most personality out of the rest of the cast but was killed off at a very awkward time. Right when the readers are able to connect to a likeable character with a hidden pain that's very realistic, she instantly gets one-shot by a car after. This may be more preference based on my part though, but the timing felt too off.
Hana felt fine... But aside from her great grades her relationships with other people in the class aren't that explored. Her only friend seemed to be Kazu before she died, but more interactions between her and the rest of the students could've been explored. The same thing goes for Ryou as he only interacts with the characters introduced.
Finally we have ketchup girl, who I felt was the character that was most off in the story. I didn't think we'd have the supernatural element placed within the story, but it felt really out of place. Not to mention her OG flashbacks of her being an edgy emo that liked to see others suffer, but that backstory and attempted symbolism with the bird wasn't as close in terms of quality as Kazu or even Mori-sensei.
All in all, I think having a longer length and more interactions would've helped to increase quality. Ketchup girl's backstory felt too out of place for me, but the rest were believable enough. Other than that, it wasn't too badly done, but having a story being longer could've made it much more impactful.
| Starart152 chapter 8 . 7/15/2017
This is a nice chapter that gives some development and character progression in the family of Ryou as he lost two months of his remaining life.
It's interesting to see why his mother couldn't be present and it is a good reason and a sad since it prevents spending more time with her children.
| Darth Zannacross chapter 12 . 7/12/2017
Well, a touching end to a touching story. Seems that despite the sadness everyone is able to move on smoothly enough.
Lets see, this is quite different then a lot of stories I normally read here but its good that it stands out, you did well to express the emotional tension in this story, showing the cast dealing with his death in various ways.
I guess the two that would stand out the most to me in this is Ryou for his dealing with death and Hana for, how she reacted to his reactions and all she overcame.
Well...I hope your motivated to keep writing more as this story so you can keep giving emotional punches. Till then keep up the good fight DX and till next time.
