Reviews for Something Better |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hey! I just saw your message on becoming a beta reader for your new draft in this story. If that’s still open then would it be possible for me to become one? |
![]() ![]() ![]() Aww this was so good. I loved every second of it. |
![]() ![]() Well written... especially the cross-cultural and racials tension. Thanks. |
![]() ![]() It's probably been a little over 2 years since I first read this story, and I honestly love it more than ever. I've been rereading this every few months like it's a talisman, and every time I do, it brings me indescribable comfort. I love Aksel; I adore how much he cares for Emi, all the things he does for her, their conversations about Emi's insecurities, and how complex you've written him. More than that, I can't express how much I appreciate your depiction of Emi's struggles with her identity. I'm not a halfie (like I assume you are?), but I'm a girl of Chinese background, born and raised in Australia. I've only ever been to China once, when I was 4, and I don't remember much of it at all. Australia is my home, just like Germany is for Emi, but I don't feel a part of white Australian life, and I'm not sure I ever will. I'm sure I could never live in Asia either, because I am Asian in appearance only. You've so perfectly captured my inner turmoil, and that of countless others, I imagine. Interestingly enough, I have Eurasian cousins who live in Germany, and although I'm not entirely privy to their thoughts on identity, I think one of them considers himself to be more Caucasian than not. The best stories inspire you and take you to places you've never been. I've never been to Edinburgh, but your story has heightened my yearning to study in Europe. I'm just starting to look in to applying for exchange now, and if I end up going next year, I'll be 20, like Emi. Here's hoping I meet my own Aksel. I know you've said on Twitter that Somewhere Else is temporarily shelved for Auld Lang Syne (which I also love), but I'm harbouring hope that you'll come back to it after the new ALS chapter is up. It breaks my heart to see them fighting, and I want to see them happy again. Anyhow, thank you for writing this beautiful story. It really has moved me, and it's one of the best fiction pieces I've ever read. I'm sure I'll be reading this for many years to come. |
![]() ![]() This was the most beautiful oneshot I have ever read. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I've travelled through your writing with a different username for a long, long time, but I just want to say again how much your stories mean to me. Thank you so much for putting your soul into your writing and sharing them with an audience who can feel the joy and pain alongside your characters. |
![]() ![]() Holy crap, why does this not have more reviews? Your story is beautifully written, and the characters just seem so real. Their emotions and thoughts are so deep, and this is has definitely become my new favorite FictionPress story. Thank you for writing this masterpiece! |
![]() ![]() Read this again in one sitting! I've reviewed this before (I was the Singaporean learning German) but it's different now that I've visited Hamburg and can finally imagine all the things Emilie mentions about her home :) Aksel and Emilie are really so sweet - can't wait to see how things progress in the sequel! Thank you for writing this. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Your stories are seriously so amazing! It really doesn't take long for me to get reeled and suckered in, ugh. Now... Onto Somewhere Else :D |
![]() ![]() ![]() Ahhh I can't believe you've been to Singapore! Love it when my country gets a little cameo Hahhahaha Her first party experience felt like mine when I moved to Australia for Uni! Excited gonna continue with the story now hahah 3 |
![]() ![]() ![]() OKAY. THIS STORY IS LEGITIMATELY ONE OF MY FAVOURITE STORIES OF ALL OF FICTIONPRESS. I'VE FINISHED IT AND I HAVE REREAD THE 40 THOUSAND WORDS MANY TIMES AND IT STILL GIVES ME SHIVERS. AKSEL THAT SON OF A GUN. But seriously though, I love this story, and I love that it's a big one shot because I'm pretty impatient like that. I'm currently waiting on you to finish writing your sequel to this because I loved this. But I totally understand why you're cutting it up so I'm happily waiting! Please keep writing because your detail, style and just everything you write is so amazing. :) I've read Facebook Official and other stories before (from communities) and although I DO love those stories, Something Better is by far my favourite. I found this story by pure luck, and I was surprised when I realised you were the same author of your other stories! SO GOOD PLEASE CONTINUE, LOVE MANY IDK IM FANGIRLING AHHAAHAHAH. no but seriously I read this story like months ago and its amazing ok bye 3 |

![]() ![]() ![]() I can't explain just how much I love this story. I think you captured the characters and their setting just so incredibly beautifully! This is probably my favourite oneshot of all |
![]() ![]() ![]() This story is so realistic and beautiful that I come back and read it over and over and over again. The evident love, the pain and the beauty of knowing that someone is thinking of you all the time! It's wonderful. |
