I can understand why the narrator is saying this, but it still comes off as a little bit insensitive. People who contemplate suicide aren't removing themselves due to selfish reasons, and it's a bit unsettling to have a selfish reason for them to stay. As in, 'if you won't live for yourself, live for me'. Apologies for getting a tad bit carried away with that message though. As someone who's gone through a similar situation and heard of others who committed suicide, it irks me that people still throw around the argument that those who commit suicide are selfish and don't think of other people.
