JamestehWriter chapter 1 . 8/1/2023 Alright, so this is a review of the entire series because I (and a friend of mine) read this entire thing together and we have some thoughts. Pros: 1. I like your prose. It has a very distinct personality, and style to it that I love and made what in some other works might've been boring moments or paragraphs a breeze and a laugh to go through. 2. Your ability to grasp, and convey character interactions and moments I feel is your strongest point. Throughout this entire story, I was all in for Arael and Rosshalde spending time together doing things (something my friend also agreed with, and found following through to be very engaging). 3. Your chapters, for the most part, have a really good hook with only a single or few sentence(s). Something that I know from some experience both writing, and reading to be a pretty difficult task but you've handled it expertly. 4. Now, I and my friend, don't mind long chapters but I think it's worth noting that your chapters, while a little more on the shorter side, are paced perfectly. It's not too long, it's not too short. It's just as long as it needs to be for the tale that's being told in each one. Cons: 1. I'm not gonna mince words here, both me and my friend didn't really like the chapter Violence. It was hard to follow, and I think the prose was a bit too vague and not clear enough on exactly what was happening. If you're going to write a chapter like that in any future endeavors, I'd highly recommend being a little more clear and while I understand what you were trying to do, convey a battle between two cosmic beings - I feel that you could've conveyed that sense of scale and awe while still being more clear in the prose without taking away the mystique of the unknown/supernatural. 2. Now, this last one is a bit of a mixed bag, admittedly, as it has to do with the reveal that Arael is actually Lucifer. This review is written in 2023, while the story was written in 2015. So, perhaps back then the focus on the archangel and devil himself might've come off as more original - but now a days I feel like it's just kinda expected. Now that's not to say that this reveal was necessarily handled badly, on the contrary I think there were a lot of smart clues placed throughout that the idiot that I am didn't figure until it was explicitly pointed out - but that the actual subject of the reveal once...well...revealed was admittedly a little underwhelming. Overall, I enjoyed this story. It's got a nice length, good prose, and characters that I actually wanted to see more of. From my perspective, I think you have the talent and ability to make an absolutely killer slice of life with supernatural and/or cosmic elements (if you haven't already). And if you do, I'd be ecstatic to read it. |

D L Giddie chapter 1 . 11/30/2015 Absolutely fabulous story. I really, really was bowled over. The timing... just impeccable! I laughed out loud a number of times, yet despite the wit throughout this story, it never once lost its incredible poise. The writing was graceful, while also being so refreshingly plucky. The plot so simple, while being unique and utterly captivating. This is the first thing I have read on this site, and I really am so glad it is. I am officially hooked already. If it hosts this calibre of writing, I am certainly in the best place to get my fiction fix. Thank you so much for such a beautiful read before bed. Amazing. |
