I am liking this story so far and I intend to keep reading it.

The slang seems a little uneven at points. The story starts with very little of it, then gets really thick in the middle, then goes back.
[See, in this country, the king's servants are all so stuck up that they can't do any of their own work. Beats me why they can't eat what's left over from the king's table 'stead of lettin' it all go to waste, but they won't. So, Ole Martha does the cookin' for them, an' they all come here to eat.]
Yeah, this is the kind of viewpoint that feels like it takes place in our setting, as opposed to the world your character is in. I mean, eating from the king's table is far better than eating what the servants generally get, so it makes no sense for the servants, elevated as they are, would turn their noses up at that.
