I'll have to start by saying that "Wagnerian overtures" is a difficult phrase both to rhyme and to fit into the rhythm of a poem.
I'll have to continue by saying that you did a very nice job. The imagery and word choice is spare but appropriate for what you were trying to convey. Wagner himself wouldn't have liked it, of course, but I like it. I like any good piece of writing that involves music and/or history, and here one is.
I'm obsessed with all things Russian, in case you care, as you said similar things about yourself and Germany. Yet I should admit that Hindemith is still one of my very favorite composers.
Ok, I'm off topic now.
