Awww! ::Sniffle tear:: I love the story of the Christmas Truce. Well done!
| Newkirk's Heroes chapter 1 . 3/30/2002
This is really well-written. Reminds me of a song (I don't know who sings it) called "Christmas in the Trenches". The truce is still so inspiring...that men can retain their humanity even in war. I wrote a poem about the truce, if you want to check it out, but this is very good. I liked it a lot
| Kota Magic chapter 1 . 3/28/2002
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful! You really wrote is as if you had actually been there. I recall a story I saw on TV once where, during WWII, some American soldiers approached a rural house in Germany where there lived a mother and her young son. All that they wanted was some shelter from the blizzard. The woman said only if they left their weapons outside. They did so and settled into the little house. There was a knock at the door, this time it was German soldiers. Again the woman said they were welcome if they left their weapons outside. They did, and throughout the night, which was Christmas eve, there was not the slightest bit of hostility in the house. Everyone got along like old friends. Your story just reminded me so much of that one.
