| DeathByKaila chapter 1 . 10/9/2002
Hey, everyone counts. Every opinion is just as valid as the next, and it's good to know that how I see punk is shared by others. In this time where it seems as though the evolution of punk from such incredible roots has brought it to an inevitable cross with mainstream, poser, and
fad-dom. So many people who have the traits of what punk has always been have grown to be such blatant elietists, and honestly seem to have become less punk than those who, however unfortunately, think that punk in blue liberty spikes and a tie. Yes, the fasion aspect of punk has always been there, but "back in the day" it was an extension of the ideals and lifestyle. Buy things that lasts a long time so that the amount of money you give to corporate America (or where ever) is minimal, things that shock or cause controversity. However, what was controversial then is mainstream and ho-hum now, and very few of the people sporting the "punk" fashion are doing anything but giving excess money to the aforementioned evil, by buying gross amounts of patches, pins, stickers, ties, arm bands, skateboard shoes that they won't skateboard in, leather studs, or anything else that makes them feel Bad in Plaid. Sadly enough, this is generally becuase their favorite "punk" band on MTV sports the same pseudo fashion. Hopefully someday punk will undergo a Catholicesque reformation, the true punks with true punk ideals staying as is, and the punk of lesser calibur.. the... eh hem.. posuers... in their own, sperate and easily identifiable place. Maybe us true punks can do our part, show our other half what it really means to be punk (make them a compilation, give them a website to check out, invite them to a show, anything. Use your imagination) and hopefully either show them this isn't for them, or making them understand what it really is and start exemplifying those traits. And hell, that will probably happen as soon as something new comes up and replaces the punk phase the mainstream seems to be stuck in all of a sudden. Well, if any one is actually still reading this, thank you for indulging me, I've needed to get this off my chest. Sorry for reviewing my own, but I felt the need. Your resident hypocritical purist,
