Final Chapter: Happiness

Satomi dragged herself to her bed. She carefully sat down on the soft mattress, but she could still feel her hipbones rubbing against the springs. She wrapped the sleeves of her kimono tighter around her freezing arms in a vane attempt to warm herself. Looking around her room she noticed her jewelry box. It had been a while since she had opened it. Bony fingers worked at the lock until she had opened it. Inside there were remnants of the Satomi that used to exist. There was picture of her and her mother. The smile on her face was genuine, sandwiched between 2 healthy, chubby cheeks. One tan arm extended out to form a peace sign, something that Satomi found difficulty in doing now. Under the picture she found something even more heartbreaking. There was the chocolate that she had given up so many months ago. Her mouth watered as she remembered the texture of the chocolate against her tongue and the way her mother always packed it so lovingly in her bento.

Jirou knocked on Satomi's door and waited for a reply. Her heard a lot of noise coming from the other side before the door finally opened. Satomi looked worse than she had ever looked, but Jirou didn't comment on it.

"You're missing all of the fun." he beamed.

"I don't feel much like having fun today." Satomi stumbled out into the hall.

Mustering up courage and searching his mind for the right words, Jirou finally said, "Satomi, I want you to get better. I want to help you get better, but you have to want it too."

"Do you think that I could?" Satomi's voice was breaking as tears threatened to pour down her face.

Without answering Jirou took her hand and led her down the stairs. Satomi knew that he was not only leading her out of the house, but out of misery and pain.

Satomi looked in the mirror at herself, deciding that her new green socks looked great on her. She pulled them up a little more before reaching for some hair ribbons. While tying her hair up the thought briefly crossed her mind that her legs looked a little chubby in those socks. She quickly closed her eyes and calmed herself down. There was no time during Winter Break to think about weight or revert back to her old ways. She wanted to make a conscious effort to be happy.

She ran downstairs to the kitchen to wait for Jirou to arrive. Once there, she searched the fridge for something to eat, finally deciding on a rice ball. Jirou arrived and noticed her small breakfast.

"Is that all you are going to eat?" he asked cautiously.

"I'm going to wait until we get to the mall." She replied, finishing her breakfast.

Jirou admitted inwardly that she was really looking better. She still looked a little thin so he could tell that she was still watching her weight, but she no longer had that skeletal look that she had so many months before.

Satomi thought she looked better too. 40kgs was fine by her, though her doctor still wanted her to gain.

"Ready?" Jirou asked when Satomi had finished her rice. He noticed that a little grain of rice was sticking to her mouth and brushed it off with his pinky finger. Satomi laughed nervously and was startled by the sound of her own voice. It sounded so happy.

Owari da yo!!!!
