A/N: See, I updated really quick! Now if only I could do that with my other stories… But if no one seems to like this story then I'm going to leave this alone for a while so I could update my other stories…. Which I haven't worked on for ages!
"Morning bro." Max said cheerfully as he stared up at his brother coming down the stairs yawning. He couldn't help but chuckle, Michael was never a morning person.
"Morning." Michael replied as he sat down at the table pouring some cereal.
"Slept well?" asked Max
"As good as it can get."
"That's good to hear."
"Oh, she said she had a client she had to meet or something."
"This early in the morning!?!"
"It's 11 o'clock, I could hardly call this morning."
"Yeah, okay whatever."
"Is June up?"
"You're asking me?"
"Well yeah, your room is right next to hers…"
"So?" snapped Michael
"Look I was just asking." Max replied, "Why are you so hard on her?"
"What do you mean?" Michael replied innocently
"You know exactly what I mean Mike. You're so rude to her and you barely even know her."
"I'm… civil towards her."
"Yeah, if you call glaring a friendly gesture…"
"Why are we having this conversation?"
"Because we're going to be here for awhile and I can't stand it if you two try to bit each other's head off every time you meet."
"Well… I don't like her."
"Why not? She's a really sweet child."
"What is this? Twenty questions?"
"No, just a concerned older brother questioning his younger bro. I hate to see our family –"
"I would hardly consider her family." Michael replied
"Good to know I'm loved." A female voice replied
"June! You're finally up." Max exclaimed glancing at the source of the voice.
"Yup," June replied as she came down the stairs. She looked at the two boys (more like glared at Michael) and frowned, "Where's Carrie?"
"She went to see –"
"Why!" Michael demanded with bitterness in his voice.
"None of your business." June snapped.
"She's my mother and her whereabouts are only for family to know."
June flinched at the mention of family; memories flooded through her mind. Memories that she tried to leave behind; tried to forget; so she could move on with her life instead of being held back by nightmares… For the past few years, she tried to forget her past, and try to make a future for herself… Her vision slowly blurred and tears filled her eyes; crying was something she hadn't experienced for the past 10 years. 'NO!' Her brain screamed, 'don't let them see how weak you are, especially not that jerk!'
Regaining her posture and forcing back her tears, she gave a weak smile, "I'll be in my room if anyone needs me."
"Don't you want any breakfast?" Max asked
"I'm not really hungry." Came June's faint reply as she stormed up the stairs.
"June wait!" Max called again, "I almost forgot, your friend… Karcy? Katie? Kerry?"
"Karla." June replied turning around to face Max again, but this time looking slightly annoyed. She hated it when people didn't get other's name right. How hard could it be?
"Yeah, Karla… She phone this morning and said that there's going to be a change of plans. She's not coming in two days." replied Max.
"Oh." Was all June could say as she felt her heart sink 'If Karla isn't coming, I'm going to die!' her brain screamed.
"You okay?" Max asked interrupting her chain of thoughts.
"Yup… anything else?" June replied forcing another small smile.
"Yea, she said you better be there to pick her up at 6."
"Huh?" June asked, frowning.
"Karla said that you better be there to pick her up at the airport tonight." Max replied
"But I thought you said –"
"You thought I said she wasn't coming?" Max asked amused, "I said no such thing, you just assumed it."
"Oh my god! She's really coming tonight?" June exclaimed with joy.
"Yup." Max answered chuckling.
"Not only does she have to barge into our family; she's going to invite a complete stranger here too." Drawled another voice
June turned slowly and glared daggers at the source of the voice, "Just because you have no true friend Michael, doesn't mean that I can't keep in touch with mine." She spat before turning around and went up the stairs once again.
"You're right." came Michael's voice.
June stopped in surprise, 'Is this really happening? Was Michael really agreeing with her? Maybe he's not so bad after all.' Said a voice in her mind thoughtfully
"Wouldn't want you to lose the only friend you have." replied Michael with a smirk, his voice cutting through her chain of thoughts.
"Jerk!" June exclaimed as she slammed the door as sounds of laughter echoed up the stairs. She felt her blood boil, not only because what he said but also because he had the ability to make her so mad… not to mention it was the truth.
