THE KNIGHT AND THE PRINCESS

The knight thought the princess was sent from above

"An angel," thought he, "if only she knew."

But the princess so doubted the knight's great love

"A fake," thought she, "too good to be true."

The knight found of this and was hurt very deeply

"How can I prove my passion?"

He tried his best, but she ignored him completely,

Foolish in her fashion.

"I cannot survive," he said one sad day,

"I need her, for she is the air I breathe!"

"I cannot trust him," she said, "Try as I may,

I know he will hurt me, I cannot believe."

To the somber cliff he traveled, ensnared in woe,

"I have nothing left to give."

As he stood on the edge, staring down below,

"Without my heart, how can I live?"

The princess was now unaware,

"He'll soon arrive again,

To preach his love, standing there

To fool me, to pretend."

Now, tell me, dear, how will this end?

This is for you alone to choose.

Will the princess with her love contend

Or is the knight his life to lose?

Tell me now, do YOU believe

In MY love, forever true?

What would you chose, to stay or leave

If THIS were me and you?

A/N: This is to my present girlfriend, who seems to have an issue with my love for her, thinking I'm either going to cheat on her, dump her or use her (and just for the record, I would NEVER hurt her that way). I only hope that when she reads this she begins to understand how much I really do cherish her. I wrote this in the fashion of a child's poem in honor of my brother and his girlfriend, who is mentally handicapped. I took a cue from him, because he often goes to visit her and tells her stories like this with hidden meanings. If she ever learns to read again, she just might like this.
