Be warned of many mushy moments to come in later chapters. Strictly a romance story, no sci-fi, fantasy realms involved. Fluff fluff ! But its still not worthy of an R rating. :P This writing style is different from what I've written before. It may sound angsty, but trust me it isn't *grins*.

Spacing: Before anyone flames me for the frequent spacing, I'd like to say it's for the convenience of readers. I have experienced problems of trying to read too many words in a paragraph, due to the default font type of FF. This spacing is done just to increase reading pleasure (and so that everyone reads every word and not skip any ^_^)

Steal Me Away

by babyg

It was the first day of the month. Literally translated, it meant shopping spree for most happy salary-receiving workers.

Which includes my mother.

Yuuka Iro sighed as she tried to focus on her book in the crowded little shop. My mom's a member, so she always comes every month to get her groceries. I wish she didn't make me follow her, I'm already depressed enough.

"I'm willing to change myself for your sake, said the love struck burglar...." Yuuka mumbled under her breath as she read the words. She slammed her book shut. What kind of book is this anyway? Human nature is such where they can't get rid of their habits. Ever. Like that guy beside me.

She looked out of the corner of her eye at a young kid who was chewing on his nails. Next to him, an old man stood, casually picking his nose.

Eew.

The shop's bell tinkled. A young guy outside, who was wearing a dark-blue T-shirt and sporting messy, long jet-black hair had just walked up to the glass door and was trying to open it, to get in.

Yuuka stared at him amusingly. Can't you read the "pull" sign, idiot?

The lady owner, who was rushing around agitatedly trying to keep up with the orders, noticed the guy and yelled. "Pull, pull !"

The guy's mouth shaped a silent O as he pulled the door. Just as he came in, Yuuka felt suspicion wash over her. What's a young guy by himself doing in a store like this? Does he think himself along the lines of "housewife" already?

She suddenly made eye contact with him. She held his gaze for a few moments before she managed to pull away. There was something dark, but magnetic in those eyes. He stopped for a moment, but then resumed walking.

She noticed there was an empty seat beside her and he was heading straight for it. Immediately, though she didn't know why, she shot up and walked over to where her mother by the counter. Sitting on one of the tall chairs, she casually turned around.

The dark-blue shirt guy was there alright. Three other guys stood around him. Now there are three other young guys. Why do guys have to appear in droves just when I hate them the most? They immediately looked up when they felt her staring at them

Yuuka turned back towards the counter, and looked through the brochures. She suddenly thought of a quote she had learned from English class.

"Mom, can I ask you a question?"

Her mother turned towards her, smiling. "Since I'm waiting for my turn and all.... go ahead."

"Try to guess which was Shakespeare's most famous warnings that he used. The first one. What a tangled web we weave, when we practice to deceive......."

"Please keep quiet. This is a robbery." A deep, low voice said.

Yuuka let her sentence trail away, and she turned to the voice, irritated at being interrupted. The first thing she caught sight of was a huge, long, glittering knife that was being held to her mother's back.

This is idiotic. What stupid joke is this? Yuuka thought, tracing the hand right up to....

A dark blue shirt. The guy she had seen just now.

She caught a glimpse of his deep violet eyes before he lifted his other hand and pushed her head down on the counter, gently.

"Please don't scream. We are not here to hurt anyone. Keep your head down, and don't see anything." His deep voice commanded softly.

So he isn't kidding.

"Everyone, keep your heads down and don't look. If you don't resist, you won't get hurt. Don't look up." Dark-blue-shirt Guy's voice rang through the whole place.

A man with a small but sharp knife walked around the other customers, causing them to cease their shocked exclamations. Another man, armed with a gun went straight to the counter behind.

"You. Get out the cash." He said roughly, pointing at the lady owner. She whimpered and slowly crawled to the cash drawer, reaching out to press the emergency alarm button.

The Gun-man noticed in time what she was trying to do, and with a snarl, pounced upon her and slapped her hard.

Yuuka grimaced as she heard the pained scream.

Suddenly she heard a loud thwack' across the room and a staccato 'Ow' followed it.

That must be Dad.

"Don't beat people. We're not here for violence." Dark-blue-shirt Guy called out hurriedly. "Bring them all to the room at the back."

I hope Dad's alright. The guy behind me.... seems to be the leader.

Yuuka shifted her position slightly to make herself comfortable. Suddenly, the tall chair she was sitting on rocked backwards. She lost her balance and toppled backward in silent surprise, hitting the floor with a loud thud.

"Bitch! We'll get you for that!" An unknown voice snarled, and Yuuka heard the scrape of his shoes on the floors. She kept her eyes shut. Try to kill me if you can. I don't care.

"No, don't!!!" A shrill shriek rang out. Yuuka opened her eyes in shock and saw her mother, still with her eyes closed, yelling out.

She saw a green shirt man holding the short, sharp knife edge menacingly towards her mother.

Yuuka shut her eyes, and pulled herself up to her full height, her hands up in the air as a surrender sign.

"Don't hurt her. I will do anything you want me to, just don't hurt her." Her voice rang out loud and clear.

She heard a cry of rage, felt the wind from the green-shirt man as he pounced. She shut her eyes, waiting for the impact.

Suddenly, Yuuka was pulled backwards, and she felt the slight breeze as the knife sliced through air inches in front of her.

"Don't hurt her. We are not here to kill. Bring the older lady to the back room. I'll deal with this girl myself." Dark-blue-shirt Guy calmly said.

The man sniffed.

There it goes. That calm suave voice again. From behind me. He saved me. And now what?

His big palms tightened around her wrists.

Not being able to control her anger, Yuuka whisked her hands out of his grasp and spun around glaring at him icily.

"If you save me just to mess around with me, I'd rather be killed by the man just now."

She caught a glimpse of his rugged features, his slightly amused look, mostly hidden by that curtain of hair, his beautifully intense eyes, before he reached out and pushed her chin up towards him.

He's angry. Yes, kill me. I'd prefer to be killed than used by jerks.

He bent down and planted a kiss on her lips.

Yuuka's eyes widened with surprise. She tried to push him away, tried to push herself away, but instead, he pressed his lips harder. He wrapped his other hand around her neck, immobilizing her.

I feel like I'm drowning. No way out. No way out.

She tasted something bitter on her lips, and because she couldn't spit it out, she swallowed it instead.

He released her. Yuuka took in a deep breath, and tried to take a step. My legs.... can't move.

She toppled like a rag doll, straight into his open arms. She felt her eyelids weighing down on her, though she tried to force it open, she couldn't.

Dark-blue-shirt Guy looked down at her. He saw her mouth moving, mouthing the words.

I hate you.
