The Hunter

I wait in the dark

I feel the hunter coming closer

Ever wary, he sniffs the air

He moves almost like a ghost

But the silence in the trees betrayed him

There are thuds in the dead leaves

The trees stir ever so slightly

"Just the wind," I tell myself

Just the wind.. is coming closer

My mind races

Should I run? Where would I hide?

I left it too late, there's no hope for me now.

I sense him, behind that shrub

I gasp, unable to catch it before it left my mouth.

The hunter spins violently, making a deafening noise

I shut my eyes tight. It was hopeless.

There I crouched alone, without anyone to run to.

Then the impossible happened

He didn't see me!

He turned and left.

Once again I made a mistake, this one fatal.

I sighed with relief.

He immediately spotted me,

Gave a cry of victory

"Found you!"

The shame of being beaten

By a toddler

At hide and seek.
