A/N: Okay guys, bear with me! I know that this is an INCREDIBLY long chapter, but the majority of it is Kori remembering special things about Sakura. It's been so long since I've updated this story, and I hope you will all forgive me for it! It probably wasn't totally necessary to have flashbacks now, but I wanted to give a little reminder to those of you who aren't fresh on what's been happening. If you loved The Charm of Enya and remember most of it, feel free to just skim through. In the next chapter, I PROMISE to have reader responses to thank all of you great ones (^.^) and everything in it will be absolutely new. Thanks!

*--Chapter Six--*

~Remember Sakura~

Kori sat alone in the cool grass, leaning against his arms behind him. The breeze gently lifted silky strands of brown hair from his face, and added to the roughness of his character. He gazed into the night sky at the stars, remembering how much Sakura loved to wonder at them.

------------- Flashback -------------

"Um. . .thanks for saving me," Sakura said quietly while sitting in Kori's bed.

"Well I normally wouldn't have done something like that, but I noticed the strange clothing you wore and was very curious as to who you were," Kori responded.

"You mean if I was wearing 'normal' clothes then you would have left me there to suffer from the heat?"

"I'm sure someone else would have found you before bandits came to strip your body for the odd clothes that are probably worth a lot and taken your bag and scavenged through it for what they could get money for then sold your body-"

"Shutup!" Sakura commanded. "You would have let them do that to me?"

"Well. . .yeah. . ."

"That's so cruel!"

"Hey, I don't exactly have enough money for myself nonetheless to feed another person!"

"Oh, boys! You're all alike! So SELFISH!"

"Geeze, you're sure aggressive for a girl."

***

"Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Linia, but that is only what people call me. My true name is Senraila, for I am a Jubachu Warrior." Kori and Sakura blinked.

"Really?" Sakura asked. Then she clapped her hands together and began dancing in circles. "Yeay, we have the second Warrior! We have the second Warrior! We have the second War-OW!" Kori threw a rock at her to shut her up. Hitting her on the head. "Ohhh, you maggot!"

"Maggot?! With a mouth such as yours it's not wonder that guy was going to kill you!"

"Well, he was trying to take advantage of me! And you were just being a big- headed jerk!"

"Yeah, well I can't even understand why that guy WANTED to rape you! He must have been desperate to-" Kori was cut off by a hard smack on his left cheek. He whipped his head to the side in the direction of the blow with his eyes wide open. A red mark began to appear from the contact of Sakura's hand.

"How DARE you say that about me," she said in an angry, low voice. "Don't ever talk like that to me again!"

------------- End Flashback -------------

"I can't believe I was so mean to her!" Kori exclaimed, disgusted with himself. "If only I had treated her better from the start, maybe there wouldn't have been anything bad for her to remember."

"Hey Kori!" Linia's voice shouted from the fireplace a ways away. "Somet and I have food ready. Come and eat!" Hesitatintly but hungrily, Kori shoved himself off of the ground and made his way towards where the other three warriors had already begun to eat. He sat down on a log near Caven, and took a small sip of water. He gulped down the liquid from his glass, and felt the fresh nectar flow through his body. He set it down and remembered how Sakura was so surprised at the purity of everything on Enya.

------------- Flashback -------------

"Sakura! Oh no!" Kori ran over to where Sakura had fallen in the thick grass, and carefully turned her over onto her back. She began coughing boisterously.

"I . . . can't breath. . ." she said between coughs. Her eyes widened, and she began gasping for air.

"Sakura!" Linia shouted as she jumped from the edge. "It must have knocked the wind out of her! Kori, sit her up!" He did as she told him to, but when he lifted her shoulders they just dropped again. She was gasping louder.

"She can't!"

"Then rest her against you!" Kori gently pulled Sakura towards him, and raised her so that she was leaning against his chest. Her pupils were dilating so that her green irises were hardly seen. "Sakura, look at me." Sakura made as much eye contact with Linia as she could. "Sakura, take one deep breath and let it out." She only continued to heave quick breaths. "Listen to me! You must take a slow breath or you'll faint!"

Sakura closed her eyes and forced herself to take a deep breath as Linia told her.

"Let it out, let it out!" She did, and then took another one, trying to stay calm.

Eventually, her breathing began to slow, and her pupils returned back to normal.

"Can you breathe okay now?" Linia asked her.

"Yes, I think so. I'm just a little tired though . . ." Sakura closed her eyes and let her head fall back onto Kori's arm. Immediately, he leaned over her face in panic.

"Sakura? Sakura!"

"It's alright, Kori!" Linia told him. "She didn't pass out, she is only tired. We must take her to Bencross so that they can bandage up her arm."

"Huh?" Kori looked down at the gash in her arm, which had leaked blood onto his white shirt.

"You must carry her. We don't need to make her walk right now."

"Right." Kori carefully stood to his feet, and picked the sleeping Sakura up off of the ground. He held his left arm under her knees, and rested her head on his chest under his chin. She must have been still slightly awake, because she pulled her right arm to his torso and lightly gripped his shirt. Kori blushed.

***

"I was just trying to have a little fun!" Kori shouted.

"Fun, is it? Kori, this girl has been through so much and she just woke up from tumbling down a hill, and you wanted to torment her by lying to her for FUN?! SHAME on you! Why don't you grow up and actually act like a gentleman?!" Linia left the room in disgust.

"Kori! You creep! So what if I'm gullible? I don't deserve to be lied to like that after I'll I am trying to do for you and your people!" Sakura shouted.

"Um. . ."

"What now?!"

Kori pointed at her. Sakura looked down, and turned beat red. This whole time she was in the nude, and no one even told her!

"Oh, you PIG!" Sakura grabbed a sheet off of the bed and quickly wrapped it around her body under her arms. She shot an angry finger towards the door. "Get OUT!" Knowing that this was not a good time to stir up more trouble, for once, Kori left the room as she said. Sakura sat down on the bed and wept, burying her face in her hands.

***

"Why did you lie, Kori? I know that you've been mean lately, but that seemed extremely out of character. What made you do that?"

"I - well, I didn't -" He sighed.

"You didn't what?"

"Okay, you're going to think I'm really stupid if I tell you this."

"When you went rolling down that hill, I chased after you, not caring one bit what happened to me. I only wanted you to be safe. Then when I was carrying you, and you gripped my shirt, I - I couldn't help but - but want to be holding you. So I lied to you to try and prove to myself that I didn't have feelings for you, but it didn't work, and I only made you mad at me." Kori was lucky that it was dark, because he knew his face was turning red.

"No. It's alright. I understand," Sakura said, and nothing more. She gently laid her head on Kori's tense shoulder, and felt it loosen as he took a deep sigh of relief. The two gazed upon the passing of the moons, and paid no attention to the fireworks far behind them.

***

After minutes that seemed like an eternity, Kori drug Sakura's body onto the sandy beach, far enough away for safety from the thrashing waves.

"Sakura!" Kori said as he leaned over her face. He gently shook her shoulders and spoke again. "Sakura, please wake up!" Kori laid his ear upon Sakura's chest. She wasn't breathing. He knew there was only one thing he could do, and he proceeded quickly.

Kori gently opened Sakura's mouth and squeezed her nostrils together with his other hand. He took a deep breath and let it out as his lips touched hers.

"Come on, Sakura," he coaxed. "Please be okay!" He pushed on her chest with his hands three times in an effort to make her heart beat again. His attempt failed, so he breathed into her body again.

Three more times Kori tried, not giving up on bringing Sakura back. A tear began to swell in his left eye, only adding to the lack of visibility from the pouring rain. His brown bangs stuck to his face and his shirt was drenched with the water, making him shiver from cold. He was oblivious to all but his will to rescue Sakura.

------------- End Flashback -------------

"Kori, are you going to eat the rest of those potatoes?" Linia asked him with a mouthful of cornbread.

"Oh, um.no. You can have them." He handed his metal plate to Linia who graciously took it from him.

"Thanks, buddy."

"By the way," Linia said between bites. "Tomorrow morning, we'll start hiking towards the east, where we may come across a town in the river vally of the Magoso Mountains."

"You had the dream as well?" Somet asked her.

"I believe you are correct. I have a feeling we may find something - or someone - of use to us there."

"As do I."

"Alright, then!" she exclaimed, while slamming down her plate that had but a few crumbs left on it. Her sudden action made the others jump from their positions, including Somet, who nearly always could predict actions of others. "Well, I'm off to bed. See you all early!" Linia packed away her eating utensils, and crawled into the large tent.

'How can she be so cheerful already?' Kori wondered. 'Just like Sakura was so suprisingly cheerful that day I woke up.'

------------- Flashback -------------

"Oh, Kori!" Sakura leapt out of her chair and ran over to the boy whom she cared about so much. She wrapped her arms around him in joy and closed her eyes, little tears of happiness seeping from them. "I'm so glad you're okay!" She squeezed him tighter as he put his arms around her too, knowing that everything was okay.

"Sakura, how am I alive?" Kori asked, oblivious to everything that had gone on while he was "sleeping". He pulled away from her, and noticed the tears and blood stains in Sakura's clothing. "What happened to you?!"

"Well I was attacked by-"

Kori caught sight of the unfamiliar boy standing near them.

"You! You did this to Sakura!" Kori immediately jumped out of his bed and started towards Caven, who stepped back, a little surprise at his sudden burst of energy.

"Kori! STOP!" Sakura shouted at him. She grabbed him by the waist, pulling him back into his bed as hard as she could. "I was attacked by wolves, and Caven saved me! Without him, I would have been killed, and you would have died as well!"

"Oh. I um-"

"Gods do you always have to be so selfish?! What's wrong with you? At least Caven actually SAVED me, unlike SOME people I know! He's a Jubachu Warrior, so what business would he have in hurting any of us anyway?!"

Kori blinked.

"I'm sorry, Sakura," he said quietly.

"Wha?" she asked in surprise. No yelling back at her? No arguing? No trying to defend his side whether he was wrong or not?

"You're right. I need to grow up a little."

***

Sakura stood before the creature, just as it held back it's paw, ready to strike her with its eight sharp claws.

"Watch out!" Kori cried. He ran at Sakura, knocking her away from the garaka onto the ground and landing on top of her. Blood started to seep from a small cut on his left cheek. Ignoring it, he jumped to his feet. "Are you alright?" he asked Sakura.

"Yeah, I think."

Kori turned around and ran at the beast, this time completely dodging the second swing. He sliced its belly with a short sword, and swiftly turned as the second one approached him. His swing missed the target spot but chopped a piece of the garaka's gigantic paw, causing it to roar in pain. This allowed Kori time to make up for his mistake, and he chopped off its head. Sakura winced at the gruesome sight. Kori put his sword away and turned to look at Sakura.

"Thanks," she said. They glanced towards where the fourth garaka was. Linia had taken care of it, and she and Caven were without a scratch.

"Oh, Kori! You're bleeding!" Sakura said.

"I'm fine."

"No you're not! Here, let me-" she pulled a rag from her backpack and held it towards his face, but Kori smacked her hand away. She looked at him in astonishment.

"Hey! That was uncalled for!" Caven shouted. "She was only trying to-"

"I don't need any freakin' lectures from you too, pretty boy."

***

"You like her, don't you," Caven said. It was more of a statement than a question. Kori turned away.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Whatever. I haven't known Sakura for all that long, but from what I can tell you should be very proud that she likes you."

"Who are you to tell me how I should feel?!"

"A girl like that," Caven began again, completely ignoring his comment, "should not be looked at and passed by. She's pretty, smart, courageous, fun, and as clueless as she may seem sometimes, she's actually tuned in to the world, if that makes any sense. I don't think you're going to find another girl quite like her - I know I haven't."

"So why would you be telling me this, if you want her to yourself?"

"I never said that. I only wanted to know if there was something between you." Kori looked at him strangely. "On Sakura's behalf," he added. "I didn't want to upset her, but since now you obviously REJECT her, then it won't hurt if I am actually SMART and try to get to know her."

***

"So, what's on your mind, Kor?" Sakura asked him.

"I dunno. Just that lately-"

"Lately what?"

"Nevermind."

Sakura sighed, knowing that he wasn't going to tell her much.

"Kori, why have you been so distant with me these past couple weeks?"

"Well, there's something I want to tell you, but I don't know if I can."

He gave a huge sigh.

"It's alright," Sakura reassured him, and put her right hand on top of his left. He flinched, but decided not to remove his hand, noticing how warm her touch was. "I'm here to listen."

He hesitated, then decided to let it out. "In the eighteen years that I've been alive, I have never had feelings for anyone else. I was never interested in girls, afraid of getting involved or being hurt. I had always heard of people not getting along, or a boy cheating on a girl or vice versa. I just decided then that I wasn't going to let that happen to me. That is, until I met you."

Kori shifted in the grass so that he was facing her, and took her fingers in his hands. She gripped them, wanting him to release his feelings, wanting him to touch her.

"I liked you from the start, but then I thought it was just a little phase I was going through because of never having a girlfriend. Then you showed that you cared about me, and I noticed how funny, cheerful, smart, and beautiful you are." They way Kori emphasized 'beautiful' gave Sakura a shiver of emotions up her spine. "I believed that I was only protecting you because you were the Defender, but then I realized that I wanted to protect you, that I would protect you even if you weren't critical to this planet. Then when Caven joined us, I saw how you liked him, and became jealous. Then I was mad at my own self for being such a jerk to you and scaring you off."

Kori took his right hand out from under Sakura's, and lifted it to gently stroke the left side of her face. This sent another shiver up Sakura's spine, and she closed her eyes, absorbing as much of his soft touch as she could. Then she opened them as he spoke again.

"Sakura, I think - I think I'm in love with you."

That was all Sakura needed to hear. She gazed upon his face, hardly believing that the moment she had been waiting for so long was finally coming true.

"Kori, I think - I'm in love with you too."

They both closed their eyes, and Kori leaned into her so that their lips touched. Sakura wrapped her arms around his neck as she felt his tongue seep through to hers, letting the thrilling sensation take over her emotions. Kori put his hands on her bare waist, rubbing them up and down her back as they engaged further into their first kiss.

------------- End Flashback -------------

'Oh gods, I miss her so much.' Kori thought to himself. He kneeled in the hard, craked dirt while packing up his weapons, clothes, and some extra food. 'We had only admitted our love for each other just before her soul was destroyed.' He made a face of disgust with himself.

"I can't believe I was so fuckin' mean to her!!!" he shouted, slamming his fists into the ground. He began trembling again, unable to release any bit of his emotional pain. "I don't want to go on living without you."

------------- Flashback -------------

"I love your eyes," Sakura told him. "Even though I see sadness in them, when you look at me it can only make me feel better." She gave a slight smile. Kori smiled back, but neither of their expressions lasted long. Kori closed his eyes and gently kissed her on the forehead.

"Sakura, you're so wonderful. After all you have been through, you can still manage to see the good in life. I admire that."

"Thankyou." She nuzzled her head under Kori's chin, and let out a sigh. "Kori. . .I - I am going to die soon." Tears began to fill Sakura's eyes.

"What? What makes you think that?"

"Leyston. . . found my amulet. I had it under my clothes and - and he's going to destroy it!"

"Oh, no." Kori watched as a tear trickled down her delicate cheek.

"Kori, I can't even see tomorrow with you!" She closed her eyes, and pushed herself up against his chest. She cried into his shirt, not wanting to leave him. Sakura didn't hold her sobs back anymore, and let it all out. Kori's eyes began to water as well. He closed them and pressed his cheek against her head. He began to tremble as he thought about losing her. The two lay in the cell, savoring their last few moments together.

***

"Sakura, it's not you. . ." Just then, Princess Kuya thrust her hands forward, releasing black energy that shot right at Kori. He tried to dodge it, but was too weak and cold and it hit his shoulder, causing a bloody gash about an inch deep. He yelped, and grabbed his left shoulder with his right hand to try and stop the bleeding, even though he knew it was no use.

"Stupid Warrior," the girl mumbled. "Say goodnight." The blonde and purple haired teen charged up again and was ready to make a final attack, when she heard a voice in her mind.

"Princess Kuya! Spare the boy for now. He is weak. We will take care of this in the future," Regalia hissed. Princess Kuya grumbled, but relaxed and put her arms back down at her sides.

"You have had a gift from your goddess, Warrior. Be thankful, because next time I won't let you off so easy." She sent Kori a final glare, then disappeared into the distance.

"Sakura," Kori said with his eyes wide open in pain, both physical and emotional. "Sakura, no!" He put his hands down in the snow in front of him. A few tears seeped out of his eyes, freezing almost instantly. He fainted, and the snow flew into the air where his body fell.

***

A familiar terrified scream rushed into Kori's mind and he opened his eyes. He gasped at the sight, unable to believe what he had just done. His sword had hit its target and gone straight through the amulet as well as Kuya's chest. The princess fell backwards and her body hit the ground with a thump, awarding Kori his victory.

"Sa - Sakura!" Kori's body began to shake and he released his sword. He slumped to his knees and gently lifted Sakura's head. He took one of her hands in his own and softly squeezed it. The girl winced as she slowly opened her eyes and held onto his hand with whatever strength she had left. "Oh Sakura, I'm so sorry!" Tears began to trickle down both of Kori's cheeks, as he realized what pain he had caused her.

"K - Kori?"

"I'm here." He gazed into her beautiful chartreuse eyes. Her eyes! They were green again!

"Sakura? Is it you?" Before answering, she gave a cough and spat up blood.

"Thank you. . .Kori. I'm glad. . .I can. . .remember you before. . .I go."

"No! Don't talk like that!"

"I love you. . .Kori." Sakura closed her eyelids and laid back her head. Her hand went limp, and Kori could already feel her body beginning to turn cold.

"Sakura!! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!" The tears streamed down Kori's face as he finally realized that he had truly lost the only girl he ever loved.

------------- End Flashback -------------

"C'mon, Kor," Caven beckoned as the other three packed away their tent. "We should start heading out before the sun comes up, so that we can travel for a while when the weather is still cool."

"I'm coming," he said solemnly. Kori slung his bags over his shoulders and followed the other Warriors, but kept a good distance behind them. He was surprised to see Linia drop back after a few minutes to walk next to him.

"Kori, it's tough for all of us, I assure you." Her voice was broken up a little. "And I'm so proud of the way that you've matured through this." Kori looked at Linia curiously. "I know I may sound like a mother even though I'm only a few years older, but Sakura's death has given us all strength. I believe that she is not totally gone - her soul is in each of us, guiding us along the way. You most of all. She would have wanted you to go on without her." She paused a moment, trying to hold back her eyes from watering. "She will still save us in the end. She lives in you."

Kori gave Linia a somewhat thankful look, and his spirits seemed to lift a little. He said nothing, but Linia needed to hear nothing.

'Sakura,' he thought, 'I will fight this war on your behalf. I will find a way to bring you back.'
