Truly Beautiful
A girl stands crowded by cruel peers
Past friends, always-enemies
She has just revealed a truth about herself that no one was ready to learn
They push her
And as she flies towards others they shove her too
Not wanting to be touched by the girl that said too much.
"She's a freak," they say
Her friends… or the ones who used to call themselves as such
And yet even as they all begin beating on her
She knows they can't change who she is.
The girl sits on a rock beneath a tree by a ledge
She can see it all from there, and it is all truly beautiful
And as she thinks back on her day
Her hand running gingerly across painful, though not really, cuts and bruises
She smiles
Because she knows that despite what they thought
All the ones who beat her
Calling her names, swearing, screaming, acid spitting from their lips
Nothing they said or did matters to her
Because someone loves her
Someone just like the girl
And the loss of everyone else isn't so bad
Because that one loved her back
She sighs and leans against her only companion
She cuddles close to her, accepting her warmth, smiles and whispers
"Life is truly beautiful when you're loved."
