I've gotten a sudden fascination with writing 'old English' time stories. This story will have a lot of fantasy in it....my first attempt at writing fantasy, so I warn you it may be a bit corny ^^; I don't particullary care if you flame me; it's good to know where I screwed up at, so flame away. That's all for now. ^_~ Enjoy!

Shouriin....an oasis in the middle of an endless desert. The entire city of Shouriin was surrounded by a great wall. The only way to get in and out of the city was the towering gate that had NEVER been opened. The gate was bound shut with chains and locks. The question was, was the purpose of this gate to keep monsters out, or to keep the people in? The children of the city had heard the stories and had grew up with the fear that the city was their only protection. Leaving it meant death, so the people of the city remained within it's walls, living, dying, prospering.
///////////////////
"Chie!", shouted Lady Sachi. Chie went dashing down the hall, her long violet hair flapping behind her. She rushed into the room bowing to the plump girl
shouting out with her disgusting screechy voice. "Rise.....", said Sachi. Chie rose, coming face to face with the ugly princess. The fat girl's frown shifted to and evil grin, and her pudgy hand went flying across Chie's face. The other servants cringed and shuttered. "Chei, when I call you, I expect you to come MUCH quicker. Would you like to earn another lashing?" Chie bowed her head, "No, my lady Sachiko." "Good...", murmured the ugly princess, her eyes glinting with pleasure, "Now go and fetch my gown from wherever you filty slaves clean it at. I should've been getting ready for the ceremony ages ago." "Yes, lady Sachiko.", Chie bowed and left.
Chie pulled a ribbon out of her pocket, tying the long silk hair into a tight bun. The heat was almost unbearable. Why, if not for the constant watering of the gardens this whole place would probably just shrivel up and die, but it didn't. "Damn royalty", she grumbled under her breath, but she should be used to it by now. She'd been a slave all her life. First, a palace slave that watered the gardens and mopped the floors. Then, she was 'promoted' to a house slave serving that fat pig princess. She clenched her fist, but didn't stop walking. She'd have to hurry if she didn't want to be beaten. Oh, being beaten wasn't so bad, but when she was whipped.....Chie had only been whipped once before, but she had almost died.
Chie got the dress and brought it back to Lady Shachi's quarters. The dress was a ceremonial gown so covered in gold, the gold was almost like a sort of armor. It had long sleeves and smelled of copper stone.The ceremony of Blue Moon was to be held that night. The Blue Moon was considered a God, but Chie found it stupid to worship it. What had it done for her? Nothing but lingering lazily in the sky all hours of night and day, almost mocking the people it hung over.
She and the other servants dressed Sachi, but had little time to get themselves ready, so they hurriedly applied the hideous makeup and slipped on the white dresses they were forced to wear, trailing behind Lady Sachi. The servants were never allowed to get ahead of their ladies. It was the law and the law is NEVER broken.
The Blue Moon ceremony was just one of the many daily ceremonies, but this one in particular was important.The Blue Moon ceremony required a sacrifice. It was the law. The event was held once a year, one the first day of planting season. In the beginning, a young woman was used as a sacrifice, but now a virgin lamb's throat was slit instead. instead. Gruesome, ne? The ceremony started out with beheading the lamb and the royals would throw blue rose petals on it's carcass. Then, everyone would chant prayers to the Blue Moon, asking it for a plentiful season. While everyone chanted, holy men would shower the poor lamb's remains with oils and spices, then, they'd set the whole thing a fire.
The royals took their seats and the eldest holy man walked onto the pillar that the lamb would be placed. He shouted, "The Blue Moon had grown angry with our peaty scarifies! It requires a human sacrifice! Who shall be the one who has the honor of pleasing our gods?" The royal began to chatter amongst themselves and someone shouted, "A farmer's daughter should be the one to die!" several nodded in agreement, and after much debate it was decided. A farmer's daughter would be the one to go.
The palace guards threw a girl onto the pillar. The girl had beautiful butt length copper colored hair, and hazel colored eyes; eyes that now glistened with tears. She was beautiful, a perfect sacrifice. Cheers went up. Chie's eyes fell on a older man weeping at the pillar's side, the girl's father no dought. The farmer was about to lose his only daughter.
Chie turned away, and was now looking at the garden's, then the wall. How could the monsters out there be any worse than the ones right here? They were barbarians, killing off a innocent girl. A shrill scream went through the air. Chie couldn't bring herself to look. She'd be beaten terribly if Sachi noticed her not participating in the blood shed. She was breaking a law, so possibly she could even be killed for this. Still, she wouldn't look, couldn't.
Voices rose around her. The chanting had began, so that meant the girl was dead. Never again would her father see her sweet face. He wouldn't even be able to visit her grave, because they were going to burn the girl until nothing was left. Looking at the garden and the wall made her feel somewhat like she was farther away from the brutal massacre that was the Blue Moon ceremony.
She felt tears glaze her own eyes, but she blinked them away as something caught her eye. A man. A man was standing standing of the wall! He, he was gorgeous. He wore clothes that were like none she'd ever seen, and his hair! It was the color of silver with shards of gold, and as long as her own! It was much longer than any man's from Shouriin. He glared below him at the saluter, disgust filled his eyes. He looked fairly human, that is until Chie noticed the set of dog ears atop his head. A, a monster?
She hadn't noticed the award silence until someone shouted, "A demon from the abyss! The blood must a lured it!" The place broke out in panic......
