Chapter 2- It Told Us To Jump Off A Bridge. And We Listened
The tiny little thing flew out of Landri's hand and hit her smack between the eyes. I lunged to grab it and fell on top of Cori, laying down on the ground still out. I got up to run after the minute person and Landri seemed to have the same idea and we ran into each other. Then the fairy stopped. It sat down on one of the fence posts and laughed itself silly at our confusion.
Cori decided at that moment to get up and Landri fell over him all over again. It was a huge fiasco. I got up, furious at the little fairy. That little being just sat there laughing its little head off and didn't see me coming. I grabbed it and Cori and Landri broke into applause. We ran in the house, the garden long forgotten. My mother had gone somewhere, most likely to market, and wasn't there to question what we were doing. I took down an empty cherry jar and put it in there.
Landri looked towards the fairy and then back at me, "How could such a little thing cause so much trouble? I mean she is a tiny monster!" The fairy put her hands on her hips and stuck her tongue out at us, making childish m-m-m-m noises. Cori returned it and Landri hit him hard on the arm.
"What?" he asked, whining.
"Don't provoke her!" Landri replied. The fairy didn't try to get out.
Suddenly the fairy started making insane movements with its arms. "What do you want?" I asked it. She pointed at me.
"Us." Landri said. The fairy nodded ferociously. Then she pointed at herself. She took out some dust and sprinkled it on her finger, which was pointing at us again. "Why do you want to do that?" Landri asked.
Then she started to flap her wings. "So you can fly?" I asked. She shook her head and pointed at us and then flapped her wings again. "Make us fly?"
"FLY! Really?" Cori asked, rather stupidly.
She shook her head yes. Cori nodded enthusiastically at the thought.
I looked at him with disbelief. "YOU ARE CRAZY! You can't trust a fairy! They are devilish liars and mean old tricksters!" I told him. I probably was looking at him like he was stupid, because well, he was.
"Why not? I want to fly too!" Landri said, speaking as if she were seven.
"You're crazy! No!" I cried.
"Please!" Landri cried. The fairy placed her hands as if in prayer. Against my better judgment, I agreed. Hey, it could be fun.
***.
"I guess we should go to the bridge." Landri said. She was smart, and I agreed with her. "Maybe the one over by Dublin, it isn't that tall, but just tall enough. And if it doesn't work."
"I will rip her wings off!" I didn't really mean it, she was a beautiful creature.
"That bridge, it is bye where Bridgett claimed to have seen the Leprechaun and Patrick, his family banshee was flyin' over the bridge. It's a magical 'un. I think!"
"Let's go then!" Cori called with anticipation. We left the cottage with a lunch packed in a bag and headed to the bridge. I put the fairy in the bag and even though she wasn't too happy about it. But I couldn't have her flying off. The bridge was only a ten minute walk from my cottage. Dublin was maybe fifteen minutes on after that. I shook my head in disbelief that I was actually going to be flying off a bridge, or falling off a bridge. The first bridge we reached was tall, but the drop wouldn't kill us should she actually trick us. This never went trough my mind until long after we had found ourselves in Ell. Landri was jumping up down, pointing towards the bridge.
"Um, Landri, I don't mean to be rude, but you are acting like you are seven!" She shrugged and continued to jump up and down simply to spite me. The fairy was banging on the cherry jar, trying to get my attention.
"Anhel, that little sprite is trying to get your attention." Cori said pointing at my bag. The little fairy was indeed trying to alert me. I reached back and pulled out the cherry jar. The fairy was indeed waving madly and banging on the sides of the jar. She held up a handful of dust and I let her out to cover us in it. Our hair was gold and I felt like it didn't do anything. But maybe it would after we jumped on the bridge.
She hopped back into the jar and I left it open this time. We arrived at the bridge and I placed my stuff down at the foot of the bridge and we walked up to the wall of the bridge. The water loomed before us. I went back to my bag and took out the jar with the fairy in it and placed it on the ledge. She motioned for us to jump and we climbed on the ledge. Then on three we jumped. but we didn't fly that's for sure. But we didn't exactly fall either..
