Flame Dancers

As sun sets above the burning field

The flaming dancers reach out their hands

Wailing, crying, reaching

To keep it from its daily rest

The winds blow steadily over the field

Over the land, out to the silent sea

Pushing, lifting, turning

Specks of wave to clouds of white

Over the field, dancers twirl, spin

Spreading their dance

Winds cry their tears over the field of flame

The dancers stop, wail, shriek

Clasping, clawing with hands of red

To life but winds

Cry

Dawn pokes her head above the horizon

As the last dancer clings

Then with a quiet wail dies

Silent, painless

Let Me Go

Gazing through the bars of my prison cell

One thought runs through my mind, over and over

Like a movie with no end

I want out, let me free, let me go

The guards stand there, oblivious of my silent plea

I'm not the one I used to be

The helpless victim

A knife, a sharp stone a piece of glass

Something sharp enough to pierce through flesh

Would be my escape to freedom

Freedom outside these bars into the cold, lonesome ground

To be swallowed into a black hole

To be missed, mourned, eventually forgotten

But I have nothing.

They tell me I'm lucky, that I've got them

A roof over my head, and food

But what is that without the freedom I desire.

Can I not make my own choices

Will you ever let me?

Place your key in the lock and open the door

Let me grow up, let me be free, let me go.

The Healing

I've hid my heart where you can't see it

Put it away where you can't free it

Left it in an untouchable place

Far from the world's cruel embrace

Avert my eyes, cover my tears

Lock away my unknown fears

You'll never know what lies beneath

This smile I wear is just a sheath

The hiding place of my true emotion

All I left was a silly notion

Of hopes and faiths and dreams come true

The only things to help me through

This time of tears while my heart is mending;

While my soul makes it's amending

Once this time of healing is past

I'll let you see my heart at last

One Two Three Four

One two three four

Instruments

Put them together

Mix them together

Make yourself a symphony

One two three four

Colors

Put them together

Mix them together

Make yourself a rainbow

One two three four

Races

Put them together

Mix them together

Make yourself a home

This is a set of poems I've written and am thinking about submitting to our school literary magazine. Which three should I send??
