Chapter Four: Well, It's A Start
Arthur sat in his first period English class, half listening to what the teacher was actually saying. He got an idea and pulled out a small notebook and a pen. When he opened the notebook and started to write, his teacher stopped talking in mid sentence to look at him. Then the rest of the class turned to look at Arthur.

When Arthur closed the notebook and looked up, he saw everybody staring at him. "What?" he asked. Everyone was in shock. They had never seen Arthur write before. Actually, most of them had never even seen Arthur hold a pen or pencil before. Not even for drawing.

Even though Arthur wasn't writing what the teacher was telling them to write, they were all still bewildered. He put the pen and notebook away and the teacher uncomfortably continued the lesson.

At lunch, everybody was talking about him, whispering little comments like "McGlow was writing today in English," and "Didn't you hear? The freak wrote!" Arthur sat as his usual table. It didn't help at all that he was showing people that he could write because they were stilling making fun of him and calling him a freak. 'I guess everyone's too stupid to understand that I didn't just learn how to write, that I've known how to write for more than eight years,' Arthur thought.

On his way to science, Arthur heard some teachers talking in a classroom.

"McGlow wrote today."

"What?"

"Arthur McGlow wrote in his first period English class."

"Well, what did he write?"

"Nobody knows, probably not his notes."

"Well, it's a start, right?"

"Yeah, I guess."
