Chapter 5
The next morning Elena found herself lying in bed in her pajamas. All a dream, a dream she thought, I'm just madly obsessed with Alexander. That has to be it.
She was late for school that morning, so she didn't have time to write in her journal or talk to her friends before class. She decided that this dream definitely needed to be written down and stuffed her journal in her backpack.
She pulled on a pair of jeans and an Old Navy tee (no, I don't own old navy and I didn't ask, but they'll deal) Her popularity status demanded she dress appropriately if not outstanding.
"To hell with it," she thought as she pulled on some funky monkey socks and Nikes (again, I don't own it). She knew that the next day everyone else would be dressed the same way.
When she got to school the first bell was just ringing. She stopped at her locker to check her make-up and hair, grab her math book, and collect the usual notes that were stuffed into her locker before school began.
She decided to go ahead and go straight to class and not seek out her friends in the halls of swarming teenagers so that she could read her notes. When she got to her classroom there were only a few people in there. She dumped her books on the floor by her desk and plopped down on a chair.
The first note was from Leslie; Cory had told her about Elena showing Alexander to class and she wanted all the "juicy details." By the time she had finished reading that note the rest of the students had filed in and the bell had rang.
She sensed Alexander before she saw him. She followed him with her eyes until she tore her graze away. Surely someone would start noticing her ridiculous fixation on him. Mr. Mansard started his lecture, which was basically a review of last year.
Elena dragged out her math book and spiral and pretended she was taking notes. What she was really doing was writing Leslie back. She gave her the same details as Cory. The second note was from Cory, wanting her to explain why she was late.
The rest of the notes were from wannabe members of her group, flyers for school functions, and flirty notes from some of the guys. Except for one. Just as she was about to open it someone slid a note across the floor to her. It was from Cory.
Elena, What happened to your arms? Did you have an accident with a patch of briar bushes? Is that why you're late? Cory
What? Elena thought. What was she talking about? She looked down at her arms. They were all scratched up. But she hadn't been running through the woods, that had been a dream. She's woken up this morning in her pajamas. She raised her hand. She had to leave. Alexander was right behind her. She had to leave. Now.
"Um, sir, can I go to the nurse, my scratches are burning," she called out to Me. Mansard. He consented and she hurried to the school clinic.
The nurse gave her some ointment and questioned her on how it had happened. Elena didn't think it would be believable to say, "I don't know," so she told her she'd been running through bushes. The nurse didn't totally believe her story and frowned slightly. Elena ignored her.
"Can I call my mom?" she asked.
"Sure, phone's right there."
Elena quickly told her mother that she needed to come home because she had to get a new shirt because she was wearing a sleeveless one. Her mother gave her permission to come home, and soon Elena was gathering her books and heading out the door.
On the way home she noticed there was still that one note she hadn't yet read. She opened it up and couldn't breathe. On the note was a picture of the bonfire from her dream and one work written under it: magick.
Ok, well that's it. Hope you guys enjoyed it! I'll try to update tomorrow or Monday since there's no school! Don't ask me why, I just know I don't have to go. Remember to review!
