A Vampire's Heart
Lex was getting ready for bed. She walked into her room wrapped in a purple towel, brushing her beautiful brown hair. She considered herself an ordinary 13- year-old girl who didn't have much going for her in life. Always she had thought she had no special place in this world. But, while she was dressing in her black silk underwear set, someone

who did not think the same way about her was watching through her curtains.
It was her next-door neighbor Shido. He was tall, and had the most gorgeous, icy blue-green eyes anyone has ever seen. He also had long purple hair that was draped down his back. He appeared to be just like any other peeping tom, but he had two very special secrets. It wouldn't be difficult to figure out that one of these secrets was his deep love for Lex.

He had loved her since the day she was born. Shido had visited her parents at the hospital, that day. He walked into the mother's room with roses and a big smile on his face. After sharing his complements and good wishes with the couple, the father took him to the nursery to see their pride and joy. The father pointed the child out to Shido, and as his eyes focused on her, he froze. Bright light flashed in front of him, and he saw the baby before him grown into a beautiful young woman. That's when love stole his heart. From that day forward, he's always been nearby, watching,

protecting her.
After Rurouni Kenshin was over, around midnight, Lex climbed into her warm bed, tucking herself under five blankets. She slid into a deep sleep. As she snuggled in, Shido sighed. He had lost his angel to dreamland again. Shido returned to his room, and was about to get into bed when he was rocked by his thoughts of Lex. How he wanted to join his beloved in her bed. He had tired of watching in the shadows and crowds. He wanted her by his side, wrapped in his arms, feeling hislove for her. Before his midnight vigil, he had found himself caught again in his recurring dream about himself spending his evenings with Lex; always together, always near each other, never letting her leave his sight. He desperately wished he could just walk into her room, get into her bed, and sleep with his arms held tightly around her.
He shook himself out of his thoughts, grabbed his coat, and went back out onto his deck to look at the stars. After awhile, he found himself in front of her window again. He put his hands on her window. He could feel the heat of her body, he could her her silently crying out for him to come inside, to be with her. He gave in to those cries. He stood in her room, at the side of her bed, stroking her cheek. Lex felt the soft touch and woke up. She opened her mouth to scream, but before she could say a word, he put his finger to his lips.

"Shhh..It's okay, dear, I won't hurt you."

"Who are you, mister?" Lex whispers, trembling.

"I'm your friend, and your greatest admirer."

"Yes, my darling."

He bent down to put his arm around her waist, and kissed her on the cheek, then on her forehead.

"What was that for?" She asked.

"Just to show you I care."
