I wrote this just after the Foot and Mouth outbreak and the collapse of the twin towers, when it seemed like the world was coming to an end.

I remember when I used to ramble,

Along the tree lined country lanes,

And I saw the flowers choked by brambles,

Trying to reach the sun in vain.

Then I turned to the fields and hillsides,

Were so many sweet animals once roamed;

But disease had surged through like the tide,

And the magpies and crows were alone.
I remember a world united,

When there was no animosity or war,

Then with just one act the world was divided;

And there was hatred once more.

So I turned to the ones in power,

Thinking they could make a change,

But they shattered my thoughts in an hour;

Why does this seem so strange?
