The acrid smell of ash and smoke

Lingers lazily in the air

And the ancient forest chokes

Sinking slowly into despair

In the city metal monsters roar

Over hard and stony surfaces

Overhead steel birds soar

On metal track a synthetic serpent hisses

Even in the country people shy away

From contaminated water, unsafe to drink

And young children are not allowed to play

In the sea where the litter sinks.
