The Blind Man's Sight

I know that there is a star above me,

Shining with the purest light in all the world,

Lighting my way in the darkest hours.

And I know that there are trees,

With magnificent trunks of mahogany

And leaves of jade and emerald.

And I know that there are rivers,

Flowing through the land with vigorous force,

That started as a tiny brook in the mountains.

And I know that there are oceans-

Teaming with the most unimaginable life forms-

That shimmer sapphire and cerulean in the sun.

And I know that there are people,

Who take seeing for granted,

That act as if these sights will always be there.

For I once saw them too,

And took their majesty for granted,

But now, all I see is black.
