Softly rise

Softly dies

The soul within me

Softly cries.

Gently, gently

Comes the fall--

The curtain drops

With soundless grace.

A soundless end-

So soft, it may not have appeared at all.

But I know that it was-

That the script was altered

Without my word---

That the soft, soundless moment passed

On tip-toe, across the stage

And suddenly the scene of my life

Was changed.

Quietly, so quietly,

It stole away

And left me 'lone

To weep a soft soliloquy

To earless stone,

Where underneath my lover lies,

Coldest bone.
